Are you a brokerage or a trucking co? Are they running under your authority or do they have there own.

I miss my refer days sometimes. I don't know if it's the refer part I miss or the running under our own authority that I miss

don't bet too much on it. I think it's going to be an "adapt to survive" situation for a while. We need to wait for the low rates to force a change in the overabundance of cheap newbie drivers and poorly planed owner ops. Eventually it will change solely based on the economics. Unfortuanatly I think it serves to further the "consolidate to lower cost" movement that has led to the mega companies. But I even see them cutting back now. Some have stoped hirring, or at least started being picky about who they hire. heck it seems even werner is laying people off. The rates get to a point where even they won't try to haul them.
I look around these boards and see tons of people who have no right driving truck

i hear ya man....theres no way you can turn back time like 3yrs ago when the diesel was cheap and freight was plentiful everywhere now those both things are doing all the damage and its hurting the most for O/O who drive their own trucks.....dont even get me started on freight some of my guys wont go to places like FL or NJ and all my customers pay good to NJ and FL and it makes it tough to get them back hauls from those place and it creates more problems for me as a business owner because i have to find different customers to places where they pay and its almost impossible right now at this time...ive been doing with same old customers since back when it was POPPIN' so now when its slow everywhere they at least take care of me out of NW...but east coast is just tough i cant find any dedicated freight thats worth hauling back home makes me wanna change company name to SAY NO TO CHEAP FREIGHT!!!lol

FL has never been good. And running refers you have an advantage but even that is only seasonal.
Nobody will haul into FL without a rate that pays good enough for them to be able to dead head out. I used to run greens weekly out of Tifton GA which was great for getting out of FL so I made a bundle hauling in there but last I heard they are growing sod now.
I used to haul for a guy in Detroit who cut you a check after it was unloaded. Been looking for him lately but I think they are out of business.

Fuel wasn't cheap three years ago. It was cheap in the mid nineties when I was running produce. I would touch anything for under $1/mile back then and fuel was $.82 gallon. Funny thing is the rates now still arn't much more than that and fuel is $3.25
