yea listen to chinatown. he knows what hes talking about. i have a cdl and had graduated 3 years ago. i had a traffic violation and was told that i had to wait for it to clear off my record. it has now, finally. then most companies wont hire you without a refresher course. the cheapest one of those found was $1000. chinatown then suggested that i try some companies and gave me a list. i now have an interview on friday. but also when you get that cdl, dont stay away from that truck too long because if you do, you will have to take that refresher course that i mentioned if you want to drive again. i hope to start my new career soon also. the cdl isnt hard to get just hard and expensive to keep. good luck man . i hope you like it.

yep you never know. im like you though , i have to admit , im nervous and a little scared about my interview, but i guess that is to be expected, it is a big step after all
-
Man those Raider Express trucks are slow...like Prime slow.
-
... as long as they carry me safely !!!
-
yea i dont know from experience yet but i have heard that most trucks at companies are governed between 65 and 68 mph. which i guess is good i they get someone with a lead foot. will keep some out of trouble
-
but like you said, getting back home to your family safe and in one piece is the 1st objective in my opinion.
-
A lot of trucks are governed at 62 and it isn't for safety it is so fuel cost stay down and wages stay down. Slow trucks to not make for safer trucks. They are hard to pass and they cause traffic jams. They also force cars to dart in an out of lanes. Changing lanes is one of the most dangerous things we do.
I am understanding that you are a veteran? If so the GI Bill will pay for your schooling. It should also pay for your training. By that I mean, if a normal driver makes 40 cents per mile and the company pays you 11 cents a mile, the GI Bill will pay you the difference. Check with your VA guy.
And Chinatown does know his stuff. -
Company told me they have done their background check and I am now approved by them for the course + OTR Training. I guess it's good.
Thing is that I was inexact in my first post. Got ZERO Moving violations but I had two red light camera fines*, which of course don't end up in the DMV Report but I preferred to tell them upfront. You never know, better safe than sorry!
*= I completely disagree with the fines, I stopped as I should have before turning right on red; nonetheless I paid the fines just to avoid the pain. Next time I will complain!
