hi everyone. i just signed up for the forum a figured i should introduce myself.

folks call me riverrat. that is my CB handle as well. i admit i'm not a truckdriver :(. however both of my parents were truck drivers for 30 years before they retired. growing up in the industry kinda encouraged a lifelong interest in trucking for me.
i now have several friends that drive and they kinda keep me interested:) internet access on the road being hard sometimes, they also ask me to research companies for them from time to time before they take a job with someone. kinda gives me something to do that doesnt have anything to do with boats.
while i have always had a interest in trucking i ended up choosing a career path that was somewhat different from my parents.
i work as a deckhand on a riverboat pushing barges up and down the mississippi river. i have been working on the river for aprox. 15 years.
im not really sure what all to put in a post describing myself. i never have been good at talking about myself. lol
if anyone has anything they wanna know about me feel free to ask me.
thank you for reading :) hope to get to know yall.
    be safe .

Hi riverrat . You can be a valuable asset here . I know others that work on the river and there seems to be good opportunity there . I live in a city on the Ohio river . Maybe you can convince some members a career on the river is more promising than one on the road .

    thanks for the welcome :)
under normal economic time i wouldnt recommend river work. butttttt during a big reccession the water shipping industry becomes vital to keep the country going. i dont understand the hows or whys for that though.
studies show that 75% of our economy depends on river transport. i think it is mainly becuase of the big bulk items like grain and coal that we export.
like most aspects of the transportion industry, right now at the beginnings of recession riverboat work is kinda sluggish.
about midway through reccessions is where river work usually picks up.
