Help! 07 freightliner classic fan clutch stays engaged

    Just bought a 07 freightliner classic xl with a c15 fan clutch stays engaged all the time upon inspection I found that someone has cut the wire going to pnumatic switch for the fan clutch the positive wire is intact but the ground has been cut and removed I believe but not sure that the ground is supposed to go to the ecu on the engine the last of my vin# is W23284 please help new o/o trying to get my feet firmly on ground

    I believe it's supposed to go to the computer not just straight to ground was wondering if anyone had a wire schematic

    Make sure the hub isn’t bad . Check to see if it’s bolted directly to your fan . I’m guessing there’s a reason the ground is stripped

    Checked hub put shop air to it and it's good everything is good except that one wire I have no idea why someone would cut it maybe a disgruntled employee that the previous owner had don't want to take it to freightliner shop as I can see them going down their checklist and seeing the bill go out the roof

    Normally ECM completes the ground in a circuit. Only thing I can think of is there was an issue (IE fan circuit shorted to ground). Typically these fans need air to release so if solenoid was ground was grounded all the time, the solenoid would never send air to release it.

    Not all of them do directly, many of them use relays to complete the circuit.

    The best thing for the OP is to get the truck to a dealer and have them figure it out, taking a chance going into it blind may cost more to fix a mistake.

    Hey did you ever get this issue resolved.. I had the same issue and ran a bypass temp switch which connected through ignition and ac switch once truck hit 195 degrees clutch will automatically kick on .. went this route to avoid buying another ecm do to temp control was not receiving a signal from ecm.
