@MaxzRig you need to get a proper diagnostic done. You may or may not be looking at a 6pack of cups/injectors. Check out the Volvo subsection there is plenty of Information there to help.

Here are the symptom of bad cups.
RPM fluter 1200 to 1400 clears up at 1500 plus.
    Loss of power
Longer cranking time. (Loss of prime)
    Loss of MPG
In extreme cases shoot gets into the water separator.

    MaxzRig Thanks this.

Why are you running it to 1700? I had a 13 d13 in a 780 and never needed anything over 15 and that was rare?
Also... the injector issues were Long solved by 13. If you DRAIN YOUR WATER FILTER every day you should have no issues. Mine had none and 3 friends the same. The guy I sold it to called me 6 months later.. it needed injectors... I asked if he was draining the water filter he said no..never.
    Maintenance folks.. maintenance.

    MaxzRig and shogun Thank this.

13 has the updated cups. Does he drain his water filter regularly.. I doubt it.

    shogun Thanks this.

What? @Elroythekid in the 5 years of owning my 2010 not once have I heard of what you claim. Cup failures still happen even with updated cups.

I cannot get my head around draining anything somehow prevents cup failures.

I drained mine regulary. We did 40,000 mile service so occassionally I would have the fuel filter restriction light pop on. Just change it over and it would be fine. Some of our 14's needed injectors, but those trucks were slipseated and abused. I rarely idled mine, 1% or so, and mine were orignal at 660k when it was sold.

Ok, I've found there are a lot of Volvo people saying the same thing. Do not run it up over 1500 rpm. I will try this out, once I get my wet kit installed & am running again. Thanks

Won't prevent cup failures but will HELP prevent injector failure.
NOBODY I know with a d13 after 12 has had injector issues? I was told the cup issues were taken care of.
