Thanks Sammycat and Railsplitter-
I'm really excited about this move, and I agree there are downsides, but there are obviously a lot of upsides as well.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention...the school wants we to get every endorsement, which is great. So I am going for Hazmat, Double/Triples, Tankers, etc. I'll learn all of it when I go to school, which goes a long way to explaining why it's a 6 week course compared to 3 weeks at TDI. They also offer job placement, so I feel confident I'll have a position with a company by the end of this process.
I start school on June 21st, and it should end on July 30th. I'll be sure to post updates when I go to school, and a review on how the school is at the end of the program.

Very cool ORG!! Some drivers who follow newbies through this journey will post how reading their posts about how excited you are to go to school and learn to drive reminds them of how excited they felt when they first go behind the wheel of a ''big truck''
Kind of nice to feel that rush when you were excited about something again!!!OpenRoadGuy and AfterShock Thank this. -
I'll definitely keep up with the posts and send other newbies useful information during this process. Today i get my physical/drug screening in order to get into the school. Once that is out of the way I won't have any obstacles towards getting into the school.

Thanks, I wasn't able to read up much on the school, but the little I did read said it was very good.
So here's an update:
- I passed my piss test
- and I found out that my class will only have 6 people in it, including myself.

Schneider has a lot of good things. My bro worked for them. The terminals have cafeterias and bunk rooms. You fuel mostly at terminals but that can be a hassle too. Equipment is good shape and all you do is tell them and they fix it. Try to get on their tank line as it pays more.

I haven't read through all the posts in your thread, and I am currently a student, I'll be testing at the state for my cdl-a next week. I do know that Falcon has regional runs, just picked up a contract from Toyota. Given the area you live in, it seems to fall within their regional route. They say that after orientation, you go out with a trainer for 2-3 weeks, your hometime will be like their runs, mon - fri, home on weekends. But they only run teams. Then you spend another 60 days in ojt, on one of their runs. My team driver just went through their orientation, and he pretty much liked what he saw--he has 33 years otr experience, so I'm relying pretty heavily on his judgement. The runs consist of picking up an empty trailer, then going up the east coast from plant to plant, picking up parts, then drop them at their destination point. Reset then go out and do it again. I hope this was helpful, good luck with it all!

Hammer,
I'll look into that, thanks. It sounds like I'd have some home time with that type of company. My only doubt would be whether they'd take somebody with no experience right out of driving school. You never know until you talk to them.AfterShock Thanks this. -
