Better late than never buddy!!! Just keep it coming! -
Hey Guys- Chris, ORG, Aftershock and now Wedge---wow like Aftershock said you go away for a short time and you guys crank out the posts! Aftershock don't worry they have all that 'free' time now-- wait until they only have their 10 or 34 to post on the crack forum we all have come to love called the Truckers Report.
As to where to post Chris- there are threads already on W/S but don't let that stop you. Another Member (Oldnewbiegonnabe) started several threads now and yesterday was his first day in HIS truck done with training-so I have followed him thru his adventures too! You may want to post under the specific company or in the General area with a thread like: Hey starting training or ''GOT MY KEYS" just an idea it's early and my coffee has not kicked in
ORG- yes I know you are excited it SO COMES across in your posts and that is so great!! It is that enthusiasm that I hope some day someone else will read and remember their early days and not feel so disgruntled at times by the BS that goes on every day in our life or some newbie or wannabee reads and says, Hey he did and look where he is!! Also you all need to remember THOSE times when you have that BAD DAY when your FM and dispatcher are F*&## with you and the dock workers make you sit or the lumpers rip you off. You will get an offer soon it really has not been that long since you applied but it is so understandable! Now you just want to DRIVE!! Amazing that this does get in your blood huh????Kwaione Thanks this. -
Aftershock,
Sorry this thread is evolving so quickly. In order to better accomodate you, I'll go ahead and call Shaffer and Schneider where to stick it, and not how up for Orientation for Swift, and then allow that to show on my DAC report. That should slow things down and make things more exciting. On the other hand....ummmmm, no, I don't think so.
SammyCat,
Believe me, I know there will be days where I need to be reminded of how excited I was to get into trucking. I know there will be some tough days, but I feel confident I'll be able to endure them. I sure know there will be some great days as well, and I'm looking forward to them.
I've been thinking about things and while I'm not thrilled about driving with a trainer, there's a chance it could turn into a great experience. At the very least, I'll be getting the opportunity to drive a truck and get some much-needed miles behind the wheel. I'll certainly have the opportunity to hook up and drop trailers, learn the Qualcomm system, and basically all of the ins and outs of driving for the company I work for.
Also, I've made an important decision that some will disagree with (AFTERSHOCK!). If I don't hear back from Shaffer or Schneider in time, I'm going with Swift on Monday. However, I plan to call Shaffer and Schneider to let them know my situation but to let them know that I would very much prefer them should they decide to pre-hire me in a timely fashion (or decline me for that matter). I like to be straight-forward and honest when dealing with companies, it's just easier and gives the company a chance to either go forward with the process, or decide not to do so.AfterShock and sammycat Thank this. -
ORG just remember part of this thread is FUN too well for those of us sitting back and watching you go through this along with Chris. About the trainer: my family Member did train for 160 hrs with his company about 5 plus weeks d/t it was a dedicated route mon to fri. I do have to say he lucked out as his trainer had like 35 yrs experience and was a good guy! They stay in touch now. On the other hand if you get an arsehole speak up!
Kwaione Thanks this. -
latest update:
I just got off the phone with Penn DOT and verified that the STA came back and I'm cleared for Hazmat. So it's off to Milford today to get my new........NEW .......CDL.
When we all passed the state test and promptly, and rather excitedly I might add, went to the DMV to get our CDL's, that hadn't come back yet so I didn't get the H endorsement on my license. Had I known it would cost another $17.50 to now get a "duplicate", I'd have waited.
Then it's off to Wally World to get the things I'll need out there.
MAN! for a process I thought would take longer than I had, all of a sudden it seems there isn't enough time.... ......LOLAfterShock, kerosene jockey, sammycat and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yeah, I wasn't so concerned as to "where" to post, just whether I should even start another thread. I have also been following Oldnewbiegonnabe's adventure (although not posting much there) and it's just so cool to see folks moving forward.
And OH! Trust me on this one, I KNOW about the COFFEE thing...LOL I've loved it so much all my life I have a coffee pot that grinds the beans fresh every morning and makes the pot. It has a timer so it's ready when I get up. I'm SURE gonna miss that out there. But I also have one of those single cup makers that uses the pouches. Not quite as good but still a fresh cup every morning no matter where I am.
This morning over on Cage's thread I saw two guys (Rick & Suan) who are also going to W/S on Monday. So already I'm meeting some folks that will be nice to....well....meet!Kwaione, sammycat and AfterShock Thank this. -
Hey again! How cool you get to ''meet'' some of TTR's Member's in real life! There are so many on here I would like to meet as you really do feel you get to ''know'' people, despite the odd circumstances of this being a forum but on the other hand I think people tend to be more 'real' cuz what do you have to lose? really walk away and don't post anymore. IF you or ORG or anyone else ever get a chance to come to my town I would be more than glad to sport a lunch or dinner for ya!!!
Coffee /living on the road: couldn't you-once you get your own truck- see if you could take the grinder with you? Seems like alot of people have taken some pretty inovative stuff with them on the truck! Also you have to figure that being able to make coffee or cook will save you money and in the end it's really about that too. Living on the road is expensive and be prepared for start of costs of things to outfit the truck but be mindful of not over doing it and going ''crazy'' (happened w/my family member and bought way too much crap!! that will never be used). Some threads on here cooking in the truck especially, that have some good info on things like crockpots (great for making meal in AM hot to eat when you are done!) coolers or fridges tvs etc and where to get them as the T/S may or may not be the best place depending on the cost -sometimes Wallyworld is the best price. And remember I have learned all this thru trial and error since Feb. but TTR has helped alot!!!AfterShock Thanks this. -
For that month I was out there I had meals down pat. Never ate at truck stops and only once in while at a good resturant for a "sit down meal". The crock pot was great as a really nice pot roast or stew would simmer away over a long run. YUM YUMMY and MAN the truck smelled good! Put the left overs in containers in the cooler and use the microwave to heat them up. We'd get 2 or 3 meals that way. Being solo I could eat dinner for a week!! LOL
And YUP, Wally world is where to fill the cooler for the week. Cold Cuts, pickles and bread. Veggies & fruits. Really did eat very well out there. I have a two burner Coleman stove too for doing bacon and eggs or whatever outside. Folds up thinner and smaller than a breifcase. I've always been an avid camper so life on the road is FUN!Saddle Tramp, sammycat and Kwaione Thank this. -
Be careful if you guys apply to Swift and decide not to go with them. They will put on your DAC that they hired and fired you! I had Swift and Gainey both do it to me. I had to dispute it with the hireright company because it was on my record. You guys really have to watch your backs with those mega-companies! Sorry I should have put these on my other posts. I didn't mean for it to come across negative.
Rattlebunny, giantmonkey, lupe and 2 others Thank this.
