This is just another sad company policy that preys on drivers. You can be sure they are getting paid detention at a rate much higher than they pay the driver. Then they figure out ways to keep the money while starving the driver.

There are lots of little things like this in the trucking world that you just have no control over and it sucks bad! Yes there are also lots of days you will be held up here and there at shippers and receivers. This is one reason you have to stay out for so long to make it worth it. If you were driving for cypress right now of which they work one week at a time, you would be down one whole day so far!
It's hard to do but you have to just chock it up as part of the job! Otherwise it is just going to eat away at you and make your career really suck! -

If they would just ask a driver...dave26027 Thanks this. -
lol, I know a lot of companies don't like the split because so many mess it up. But the OP is using e-logs.

I laughed to myself, thinking Roehl must have some unrealistic fuel economy program in place... exasperated by the reefer division guys getting unheard of Miles/gallon fuel use.
-
Both I would get the detention and 10 hour break unless they say you have to log all your detention on duty not driving
-
When this happens to me, I do a detention macro and get some rest if I can. Wal Mart is notorious for doing this to me. Not sure what I'd do exactly in your place, though.

"What do you mean you need a restart? How can you be out of hours???" (This was on elogs.)
"The speed limit on that interstate is 70 mph. I just looked it up - are you doing the speed limit?" (Answer: uh... ALL of your trucks are governed at 62 mph.)
"Your confirmed pick-up is in an hour-and-a-half. It's only 120 miles away. What's the problem?" (Also left out the part of 120 miles on secondary roads through 5 small towns.)
"I know you've been there for 1-1/2 days and the delivery was rescheduled again for 2 days from now. Can't you just get a restart?" (I...uh.... just had a restart.)
Oh, here was a good one - a little background. Pulled a load from somewhere back East to Phoenix. Get there a day early... sit and go to deliver in the wee-hours of the morning. Receiver can't take it due to some internal office error. Delivery gets rescheduled for 36 hours later. I know we have drop yard something like 4 miles from the receiver and get my DM to find another load picking up in Tempe and going to Green Bay. I get assigned and accept the load, drop the trailer, do all the macros, hook to an empty, do all the macros. Pick up the new load, do all the macros and set out. Somewhere in NM, Qualcomm goes off a few times spaced out over an hour - I figure it's just safety mssgs. that I'll read/delete next time I stop and ignore it (as always) for the time being. A bit later, my cell rings - hey, it's one of the good ol' after-hours (weekend) folks. I say, "hello." Guy immediately starts yelling:
Him: "Your receiver wants to know where his load is! IT's produce and time-sensitive!! Where the f### are you at?"
Me: (calmly) "Oh, I'm right about (some town) New Mexico. How's your weekend going?"
Him: (yelling a bit louder now, if that's possible) "WTF are you doing in NM??? Why the F### is their s### in NM???"
Me: "Oh, I'm driving to Green Bay. Their s### is in Phoenix at the drop yard. You ok, man? You need to take a break to catch your breath? I'm almost a little concerned aboutcha."
--- He's quiet... in the background, I hear a flurry of computer keys being slapped around... he's mumbling something... covers his mouthpiece and yells at somebody across the room... mumbles and slaps more keys around... ---
Him: (kind of quietly) "Be safe. Bye." {click}
Yep - questions from the office were always one of the most amusing parts of the job.Panhandle flash Thanks this. -
Just this week at a truck stop cafe in Minnesota... I overhear a phonecall in the booth behind me.
Driver, "You do realize, I have to stop for bodily functions... and do require food from time to time"...?
