    Hello everybody,
I came across a 2011 FREIGHTLINER in Canada for a good deal.

They told me they would deliver it to Buffalo, NY.

How would that work with importing it, taxes, dot ETC.

Please advise I don't have any experience with buying equipment in CANADA?

What are the pros and cons?

    Thanks

Well, 80 cents on the dollar is the pro part, for sure.

I just imported a reefer trailer from BC, and did the import myself (we run into BC every week, so no biggie).

Getting the title was not the easiest thing. The biggest difficulty was that the state required proof that all the liens had been satisfied. That was a fun one. Fortunately, we were able to work with the sellers and the lien holders, but it took about three weeks to get all the paperwork filed, refiled, and re-re-filed.

On the import side, getting statements from both the trailer and reefer manufacturers that all recalls had been performed was an interesting exercise. Then the affidavit that the engine meets US regulations. In short, lots of paperwork, but I saved about 6 or 7 K, so definitely worth it.

If memory serves me correctly, Uncle Sam will be looking his f.e.t. since it has not been paid as the truck was in Canada. That is of course assuming it was originally sold in Canada. A reputable Canadian dealer should be able to explain all this to you and get the truck across without any problems. I think there is also an EPA requirement or certification or some such thing.

The FET question is something you need to look into. Technically, I think Bigguns is right, but no one asks on a used truck......

I don't think there will be an issue with epa because it's a 2011 truck built in the USA, don't they make them all the same? You think they would make them different for canada?

The emissions are the same. The importer just has to file an affidavit to that effect, but since you aren't importing it, shouldn't be your concern.

How are the trucks from Canada? I know it snows a lot up there. Rust? It's a fairly newer truck but it has almost 500000 miles.

Years ago I brought a six wheel International into the US from Canada. The customs people came out and looked specifically at the engine for the proper decal. It was a little ####eyed and sort of fresh looking (I don't know why- haha) but he let it slide.

Could the speedometer be reading kilometers instead of miles?

I would think yes, it will read kilometers. I am sure that it can be changed over to miles.
