HELP! Curbside Drive Wheels not spinning

    Stuck in the snow. Driver side drives are spinning as expected with interlock engaged. Nothing happening on curb side drives. I marked them and they aren't moving at all. Checked the brakes on that side and they aren't locked up. Tried without interlock and still nothing.

    Drivers side drives are digging holes spinning (with chains on), curb side drives don't move at all- nothing. I've had all 4 wheels spin when in interlock before in my W900L, trying to get unstuck, so I am puzzled about this. Is it normal?

    Shouldn't the interlock distribute the power to other wheels when slippage occurs?

    There might be another switch in your truck, Mine for example has axle lock & Diff Lock.

    What type of truck you driving or I should say Stuck in

    2004 T2000. It's got airbag dump, sliding 5th, and axle lock switches, but no diff lock switch that I can tell.

    With the interlock engaged you still need traction of both the left and right side drive wheels on the same axle (either one) for the truck to pull.

    the lock on most trucks lets power to both axles, but if you are spinning 2 different axles, either on the same side or different sides, thats all you will get.

    Yep, both axles on the drivers side are spinning, but nothing on the curbside. I think the tires are frozen to the ground. I parked in my pasture and it might have warmed up enough yesterday and froze them in last night. Guess I'll put on the rubber boots and overalls tomorrow and plan to dig out that non-moving side to see if the tires are frozen in.

    Your truck dont have full lockers. This is normal when your stuck. The inner axle lock or power divider only locks the front drive axle assemble to the rear. You still have open differentials in the rears that will only put power to the side with the least traction. As long as one wheel on each drive axle is spinning the power divider is locked and thats all your gunna get. Some trucks have another switch that locks the differentials side to side also but it will be right with the power divider switch on a KW. Sounds like you dont have one. So no the interlock or power divider dose not lock all 4 together. It only lock the maine drive shaft to the short shaft between the two rears. This causes both ring gears to be forced to turn together but you still have the main differential in the rears that are not lockable.

    If you had Mack rears, I'd tell you to apply light pressure to the brakes. Sounds counterproductive, but a Mack differential has a set of cams in the differential which sends a portion of the torque required to spin the one wheel over to the wheel that ain't spinning...so when you're stuck, light pressure on the brake increases the torque required to turn the wheel that spins, which increases the torque sent to the side not spinning to get it turning.


    ...but since you don't have a Mack, you might want to call someone to give you a tug. Just don't let 'em pull on ya too hard!:biggrin_2559:
