Help for a Noob from Cleveland

    Hello, everyone. Graduate of Great Lakes Truck Driving School. Have the Class A in my wallet. Currently work in the "Parent" Company of Talon Logistics. Talon is a decent gig. Local. Incentive. Problem is, I can't get out of the Store Level. They can't replace me, and won't let me go to take my Road Test & improve myself. It's an internal thing. Suggestions? @Chinatown

    What type driving do you want? Probably plenty of good choices. Cleveland is a good location for many companies looking for drivers. There' two union outfits that have regional positions.

    Where there is a will there is a way. Take a pre planned sick day or some vacation time. Don't let a company dictate your success. Sounds like they are holding you back so you don't have any other options. Keeping you relying on them. If you like what your doing then stay. If you want options then your going to have to make it happen.

    Looking to escape retail, by any means. Talon was the goal from the start. I'm totally trained, other than the driving.... Minor, I know. J/K. Unloading, etc. is nothing. Earning my CDL has made me respect the Drivers more than I thought possible. Receive trucks nightly. Talk to all the guys/gal. They've been more supportive than I could have ever imagined. Don't want to have to go OTR, or even regional, when this opportunity is, literally, in my face. It's all politics at this point.

    If I were to start a petition, it would be 98% approval. Our Drivers. Other Drivers. They've all heard the story, to the degree the were willing to listen. It's management that's the problem. Won't let me go.... Also interested in driving dumps. All the companies require experience. How does one do that? Gain experience?

    @EscapeRoute I appreciate your advice. Problem is: They won't let me take vacation. Which, at this point, is OK, because I'll have an extra check to work with when I bounce. Took three months of b*thcing and moaning to get one week. "Sick" days are strategically planned. I'm the most logical candidate for a job that they are perpetually hiring for. All the Drivers would say "Give this guy a shot." But, I've worked too hard for the Company, in the position I'm in.... And they tell me *I'm* the problem....

    had that happen once. told them I'm taking my 2 weeks and asked if I should clean out the truck too. cleaned the truck out. never looked back.

    had been there 15 yrs and had a new drivers dept manager. the bosses son. lol. a real ##*
