Truck was on blind side.. Only damage is on my tractor.. His truck was fine but when I said I called the police he took off.. Told my company same day it hap. My DM took notes to turn it over to safety. Truck runs fine. Just needs a little work. I was just worried about my job & my driving record at this point. Job told me today finish delivering the load.. Just had a few questions thats all dude

 

I dont kno about that.My accident wasnt that bad.. But it was bad to me because Ive never got into a accident n my life. Im usually always careful & safe at all times.. Cant believe I messed up..

 

Well, if we could see the damage done we might be able to see if you need to worry or not.
Of course I'm having a hard time visualizing needing a door handle and it being minor....

 

Tell safety he backed into you. Call it a day

 

I cant explain it dude but the door has a little scratch on it but the handle is off. Fender covering fuel tank is off also and a piece by the steps but everything else is fine. Dont kno how more damage wasnt done.But thats all the damage on the tractor.

 

It's a hit and run. He backed into you. Make sure you go with that story and stick to it. He hit you.

In order for OP to have missed seeing the other truck, he had to be backing up first, right? If he had already started backing and hit another truck in the trailer, the other truck HAD TO see him and see that he was backing into a spot, right?

"But why would someone pull into the path of someone backing up, Six?"

We see it every day in the truck stops. Some impatient bonehead driving a truck. He caused the incident. And he drove his arse out of there asap.

Sorry to hear about your incident. Glad you're here though, and hope you'll become a regular poster.

I've read the posts up to #28, so I think I understand how you're feeling, --- I've been there, - done that too, and now I'm writing a book about it based on experience. Mine.

First, as I recall, the percentage of collisions that occur during backing is very high. That you're as concerned about this as you are is a good indication that you are going to be one of the better Big truck truck drivers out there. You'd be surprised how many are content to just shrug it off as no big thing, and in the grand scheme of things, it really isn't that big of a thing. It's the attitude one displays that separates the real Big truck truck drivers from the steering wheel holders. Your attitude, as displayed here, is highly desirable in this industry, -- as well as in most industries if not all.
Remember that.

You'll likely beat yourself senseless over this for a while. If so, when your senses return, think about what happened. This is important. Reason why is to understand how it could have happened and try to figure out how it did happen, to prevent the possibility of a repeat performance.

From how I understand it, you either misjudged your blind side clearance, or, the other truck was also in the process of backing and not paying attention to what's behind. Maybe looking for door numbers. Depending on the amount of your tractor jack, there would be times you wouldn't see the other Big truck due to the angle of reflection in your right side mirror, moving or not.
Do you know for sure where the other driver was when the impact occurred?

Consider this, ..... Big truck truck drivers are known for disagreeing with each other. But here we have Moosetek13: example #2, Chinatown, pattyj, Red Rover, TripleSix, and myself agreeing there's a good possibility that the other driver backed into you. That the other driver chose not to stick around is suspicious. Any witnesses to the incident?

I realize you're concerned about your job and blemishes on your driving record, as well you should be. That's important. Somewhere there are notes that were taken with more details than the automated recording indicating a collision void of details. Those notes your company keeps could read that you struck an object, or an object on your blind side backed into you.

But really, what's impressive here is your attitude and concern for your driving record. Very important. Even more important than figuring out who was at fault.
This was your first incident?
It could be your only incident during a long career. Odds are it won't. But you'll likely not forget it, not that you should.
