I just hooked up my new radio on my truck and I cant pick up anyone on it. My buddies truck sits right next to mine and can talk for miles on a basic setup. I am using a General Lee cb and a monkey made antenna on a International Transtar. The mirror is coated and i am using a 4 bolt mirror mount. My buddy can hear me loud and clear sitting next to me and I can hear him with alot of squeel, but nothing from a little distance. Any tips I can check? I know im doing something wrong I am pretty new to this stuff.

sounds like you need to check the swr's and maybe get some better coax just a guess not really sure myself

Stop by a cb shop and have them check the swr ratio. Sounds like a coax or antenna problem.

    rocknroll nik Thanks this.

The swr is a signal ratio thing. It has to do with balancing the output of your radio to the output of your antenna's so that they send and recieve at the same level. I don't know all the techie terms for it but that's about as close as I can get.
BTW did your new raido come wit ha handbook.....when I bought my Cobra 29 the book had a breakdown of how to "tune " your rig

if that is a painted mirror, you need to loosen up the bolts on your mount a little and move it forward and back to scratch the paint for a good ground,

    then tighten it back up.

    rocknroll nik Thanks this.

alright ill try that in the morning then... also i just got off the phone with another driver and he said that between the atenna and the mount it should have a plastic peice between them, I forgot to install that part, would that cause it not to work right?

ify about that but it cant hurt to have it in there. having your system grounded is ALWAYS a good idea man. It not only IMPROVES your signal out but in as well. you'll be very surprised at the difference something like a good ground can make. Run some good thick copper wire from your antenna mount to a good spot on the frame and man you'll get much better reception just from that. combine that with tuning that bad boy in and you'll be LOUD N PROUD in no time!!!

ten 4 driver.. thanks for all the info, ill try to wiggle the mount back and forth, put that plastic peice in, and tighten my mirror mount down in the morning and see what I come up with.. As long as I get it working decent by monday ill be fine. Ill probably stop by GI Joe's in Berea ky when i go through on thursday and let them double check everything for me, I just need to get it picking up at least a couple miles until then. thanks again for all the help.
