Talk to your company, sometimes they will help out. If it was a scale near where you live you could go to court and likely get it reduced based on the fact you are fairly new to this industry and a copy of that BOL would show the court you did not knowingly/willingly break the law. Your company might have someone in CA who will take care of it.
I got one a few years back for 10,000 over (log truck). Contested the ticket, went to court and showed receipts for new onboard scales and pleaded ignorance. Anything over 4000lbs over is a criminal charge in the state of Idaho. Got off with court costs and nothing on my record.
ETA: forgot, I did have to pay a 500.00 bond forfeiture. -
