Go to your local unemployment office and ask for the WIA program they pick up the cost of truck driving school. Just takes a little while running through hoops.

Boogdaddy, don't let people discourage you. I respect your determination and believe you can succeed in the industry. One thing to keep in mind in that the trucking industry is very fluid. Once you put in your first year, it is very easy to switch to another company. So people are correct in saying it doesn't matter much who you start with. I trained with one of the major companies back in the 90's and started at only .19/mile. A year later I jumped to another company at .43/mile. Just focus on toughing out the first year regardless of what happens and keeping your record clean.

Ralph, thanks for the encouragement. I have decided to go with Stevens. I'm starting on Monday, Aug. 31st. Hopefully, this will work out well. I believe things happen for a reason and sometimes we don't know what that reason is. I have visited Steven's home terminal here in Dallas, and I got a good vibe about them. I know they have their detractors, but so does every other company that hires students. Their terminal is clean, orderly, and actually a nice building. Their rigs nearly all look nice. As I said, I got a good vibe.
