Like Brickman said. The L model has a gap between the back of the front fender and the step, the B model step is close to the fender. It's hard to tell from the angle but yours looks like a L model.

On your hood down behind the fender where the KW symbol is, there is another little piece of fairing behind the fender and in front of the battery box. That is how you tell if you have a long hood. On a short hood that piece is not there, the fender comes all of the way back to the battery box.

Everybody is right with this, but not only is the B hood shorter,it is also straight, where as the L hood slopes to the front. The 007 special edition is the only factory long hood B ever built ( to my knowledge ), after the end of production of the A there was no long hoods offered, part of the reason for lenghthing the B model hood (007), then after 2 or 3 years ( somewhere around 1985 & 86 ) they came out with the L model.

The grille on a W900L is somewhat narrower than a W900B which is what gives the W9L the nicer lines and harkens back to the needle nose look.
The wide grille on the W900B gives it a less appealing stubby look.

Your truck is without a doubt a W900L it was obvious at a glance from the first photo that you posted of the truck some time ago...

By the way, All you have to do the get rid of the blue tank is use paint remover or gasket remover to soften up the paint and then sand it a bit and then have it polished...Or if it's a sticker just heat gun it off.

OR.....Paint the other one to match.

It looks like a pretty nice truck...It's only a year older than mine.
It ought to give you many years of reliable service if you take good care of it.

    Thanks! :biggrin_25525:
I have spent a TON on it, bringing it back to road-worthy. It was a well maintained rig but still needed some TLC (TLC= Truck Loads of Cash).
I think the blue is a sticker. I just dont like using heat near fuel tanks...so maybe a chemical remover might be a better option for me. If i can remove the blue w/o removing the tank - then I am all for it. Whatever might be under the straps I could care less about - if there even IS anything under the straps !?

I still have to replace the kingpins when I have the $1500 or so. I'm not running the rig right now, so its not something that must be done ASAP.

If its a sticker, go to your local hardware/automotive store and buy a can of decal remover. That stuff will bubble the decal up and you can wipe if off with a rag.

The heat gun wont cause a problem anyway...Fell how hot your fuel tanks get when you're running in Arizona in august, You'll never get them that hot with a heat gun.

All these guys are 100% correct.
You will get familiar with W900's and when you do, the easiest way to tell a "L" model is just looking at it.
I have a B model short hood. I prefer the looks of a long hood, and most of all, like the fact that the motor is farther away from the cab with a L model. But my truck is kinda specialized(heavy 2 speed rears, etc) and was bought second hand, so i have a short hood. :biggrin_25514:
