Unless you're O/O and can deal with these rates you are always at the mercy of some office as*hat.
We all, company and independent, deal w the same day in day out crapola.
I personally find it easier to work for a large private carrier while towing the company line on operational discipline, safety etc.
If you don't like your situation or lot in life then change it.
But no one can guarantee a better fit or income by running your own truck..

I’d probably look into moving out of CA to AZ or NV and then I’d be looking for a company to lease to that does specialized freight like food grade pneumatic or something like that.
Late 2018 I was looking to buy a truck again and this site was doom and gloom. Same as it is now. But I had a place to go with my truck that wasn’t general freight. If I would’ve listened to everyone here I never would’ve bought a truck again.
I guess it depends on your connections. I don’t think I’d dip my toe into van or reefer without some seriously decent freight lined up, I definitely wouldn’t consider the spot market at this time. But being in CA limits your options because you can’t really lease to a carrier with decent freight. -
Ever since 2008 when I entered the industry I have been hearing that it’s not a good time to get in. Yet all the people that kept telling me it’s bad are still doing it. If it’s so bad then the only truck that need to be seen on the roads are the big giant Megas.

Now its a matter if riding this Freight market storm. Anyone willing to take a chance by sll means go ahead. Howver, in my previous post of videos speaks reality. If you can stay above water through this, then hopefully when things get better you will definitely be good.BoostedTeg, Sons Hero and wifi_guru Thank this. -
