So I have a road test tomorrow with Conway Freight, but not sure if there is an interview process afterwards, so I'm not quite sure what would be appropriate to wear.

    Suit and tie?

Button down polo with some slacks and boots?

Help me decide as I dont want to be underdressed or overdressed for a driving job.

Sorry if I seem like a newb, but I've been in the military for the last 4 years and lived in the hinterlands where I didnt need to care about anything like this.

    Thanks guys!

Excellent advice. if no dockers, then at least new or clean jeans or dress pants and a dress shirt with clean shoes/ boots. dont wear sneakers or any T-shirt. leave that for when your hired and on the job. Yes they know your going for a driving job but driving a truck does not require looking like a slob. (or at least it shouldnt!)

I always turn to my wife for these questions. I think you are absolutely right, don't go to either extreme. Based on her schooling over the years, I would choose new blue jeans (not faded or torn) and a button up shirt. I am old-school. A nice polo type shirt would be good too, IMHO. Absolutely not a suit and tie.

I think the image you want to portray is that of a hard-working blue-collar type. This includes neat, clean, well trimmed facial hair, and well shined footwear.

The slacks are a good choice, just not what I would do.

Lol after 4 years in the Marines I def take pride in my appearance, but I didnt want to get there and everyone was like wtf you wore a suit to do a road test. Fitting back into this civilian lifestyle is a little rough. lol

I have over-dressed for an interview and was asked flat out if I could do the work. They expressed doubt based on my suit. They suspected I was just desperate for a job and not accustomed to hard work. I just wanted to make a good impression.

The road test may include a pre-trip, and possibly coupling/uncoupling a trailer. Your attire should be appropriate for that sort of work.

Nice jeans/cargo pants (NO shorts, no holes)
Collared shirt (button down or polo)
Shoes/boots with oil/slip resistant sole (NO open toe, no sandals)

Take a shower, brush your teeth, comb your hair, etc... (I know....sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised:biggrin_2552:)

Clean jeans or dockers...not obvious dress pants. A shirt with a collar. If you have odd or a lot of piercings (a small earring or two is fine), take out the jewelry for the test. If you have a lot of tattoos (one or two is fine), cover them with a long-sleeved shirt. Appropriate footwear (Clean work shoes or boots are fine) Take a pair of work gloves (preferably slightly used, but not greasy) with you. If you wear a hat, make sure there's no sweat stains or general dirt on it. Wear socks. I know it sounds odd, but I've seen people show up with bare feet inside of steel-toed shoes. Comb your hair. Brush your teeth. If you have dentures, wear them. Clean your fingernails. Shave or trim your beard. If you smoke, don't have the pack hanging out of your shirt pocket. Do have a pen or two in your pocket though.

This is what I used to look for when hiring for construction work. Unless it was day labour...then I was just happy if they remembered to wear pants.

Everybody here has the right idea. Youre going blue collar. You want to dress nice because you're driving a truck and taking a test, whatever that may involve, and you don't want to overdress for that. But you're also possibly going to have an interview. If you clean up and look nice im sure you will find that happy medium and everything will turn out well.
