Help Me Decide...

Either one is a good choice.

 

Do you like talking sideband? If so get the 980.

If you think you might enjoy talking sideband (SSB) then get the 980. You can still do all the AM modes that the LX 40 will do.

However if you're like most truckers that usually don't use sideband, then go with the basic 40 ch LX 40.

 

i'd go with the SSB

 

Bearcat 980SSB is a great radio. I wrote a review on the uniden site and am very happy with the radio. You won't be disappointed. I will say while there are adjustments in the radio, I didn't need to do anything. it was right on when I opened the box. (and no I don't work for them) I had decided on the 880 but waited for the SSB. Pretty good to DX on LSB band.

 

it all depends if you want SSB or not... personally I have never had a SSB radio and i currently have the cobra 29lx and I love it!

 

Great choice! you should be happy with it! The green screen is the best visibility out of the 4 colors during the day. at night they are all pretty good depending on the position of how you have the radio mounted. All in all its a great radio with many great features! Once you get it if you have any questions feel free to message me and ask.

 

Don;t mess around. Go ahead and get a 10 meter Galaxy, Connex, General. You will eventually anyway.
