So I came down to two schools. Schneider and Milis Transfer
Schneider.
+ I like the school is 100% free with no commitment and it's school is located in the same terminal and city that I live in. getting paid 80 a day during CDL School
+ It's a big company so i'm sure i'll get plenty of miles
+.38 cents a mile with with a .5 cents performance bonus if I hit it every quarter.
- It's OTR with only 1 day off for every week out
- They cant guarantee if ill get a truck with a refrigerator, APU, Microwave, or even a TV.
- very short training with a trainer. This can either be a plus if I get the hang of it quickly or a minus.
Milis
+ Very nice equipent. All trucks are Kenworth's with Directv, Sirius Radio, and Fridge's included free
+ nice pay. .43 cents a mile with a 4-5 cents performance bonus.
+ When i'm training with a trainer I still get .43 cents for his miles and my miles.
+ only 6 students per class for more 1 on 1 time during the CDL Process
+ 1.5 days off for every week out that can stack up to 2-3 week
- school is $2300 with a 500 Deposit with a year commitment and if I dont honor that year they can tack on an extra 2k+. Not getting paid while attending school
- no guarantee of a job after I get my CDL. It states an "opportunity to work for Milis"
- no guarantee of miles once I go solo. I read some people getting 3k+ a week and other people are having a problem breaking 2k.

Just get started wherever and put in a year if you can.. especially at Schneider the best of the megas. Otherwise you'll end up like me where it's been nearly 5 years since I got my CDL and never drove yet.
-
Figured that might be me too.
Schneider does seem solid. I am not driving OTR though just probably won't drive. I'll keep the CDL as a plan b though. -

Man i may have to drive a beer truck or maybe Amerigas... for a while just to get experience.
Do these schools ask for your credentials? Like a college degree? -

Like I said I have the DOT Medical and Permit. Going to sleep on me paying for school out of pocket or find a mega... There is also a 3rd option, there is a company in West Palm that does CDL training, they require a 1 year contract and I am sure pay is kind of low... but it is definitely one way to stay local and have your CDL paid for.
Only thing about this position is it is M-F starting at 530a and it is about at LEAST and hour drive away. Guess everything is going to have some negatives. @Chinatown -
Which company is that in West Palm Beach? Some smaller outfits do that and it's not widely advertised except locally.
