Hi All ~
My hubby's a rookie driver, working for a Company that has GPS in the truck... BUT... they tell him to only follow the GPS for part of the route & then follow their handwritten directions?!! The written directions aren't very accurate. To ease his frustration and my own (cursing in the phone!! lol), I need to purchase a GPS. I've read some posts about Rand McNally and Garmin. I know these work great for private passenger vehicles but what about for 18 wheelers? What's best for your industry? What do y'all use?
Thanks for any advice!
HELP me help him! What GPS do you use?

Get the Rand Mcnally,my son tells me the company supplied GPS is too slow to be usefull. The Rand Mcnally 500 from dieselbear comes with a cool lighted pen and truckstop guide. It's the first GPS designed specificly for and tested by truckers (around $350) shipped to your house.

Get a smartphone with the built-in GPS, a GPS app, or just use Google Maps, which is free.

spoken like a true 4-wheeler/Dispatcher. No driver should be following a gps on a phone
Good maps is great for looking at shippers/recievers/truck stops but it wont help you get anywhere.
The rand Mcnally GPS is the only one worth buying. They make our maps, so buy their GPS
American Trucker1026 and Dieselboss Thank this. -
I've always been good with maps to tell you the God's honest truth. I can give my route a once over and typically get there without further issue. Has nothing to do with being a "four wheeler." Good natural sense of direction, combined with having to figure out my way to a call in less than 30 seconds and driving there in 5-10 minutes.

I have a Rand Mc TND 700 as well as a large print Rand Mc map.. I work them both hand in hand. Can't always trust eletronics.
I do have to say Rand Mc offers quite a bit more options than the others do. Directions to: T/S's, W/S's, T/B's, S/Lines, MM.
