nah, its not gordons food service, i know who they are with the white trucks with red and yellow, GSF is a company that delivers to all the mcdonalds around here, they run white sterlings, real plain jane trucks. I know they have a terminal over north of NYC by about 20 miles off of I 87, thats why I was wondering if it was GSF. I don't know anything about them other than that.

Having driven otr for years and driving local for a few years, my preference is local. Try to weigh the pro's and con's of each while keeping family in mind also. Sometimes being home every night can outweigh the extra income from being on the road for weeks at a time. The age of your daughter may also help determine your choice. Kids can seem very resilient but resent you later for being absent a lot.

How much driving experience do you have. I'm looking for work north of NYC but don't have any experience. Tired of the construction rollercoaster also. Any ideas, thanks in advance.

HOP, Honestly I don't see that its possible pulling local tanker for those 2 companies and average out much better than your $18/hr gig that you have already shot down. You are right, those are good tanker outfits, but the real money comes in running OTR. The Foodservice gig sounds like the best gig all together. I'm not saying you are scared of working hard, but at 27 that should be the last thing on your mind! You can't always have your cake and eat it too! If they are paying you hourly should it really matter how bad the traffic is? I have done a lot harder work for way less than 24/hr. You are living in a perfect world if you think you are gonna find a perfect job that pays well and doesn't have any drawbacks.... especially starting out!

I think you are right about the money and the tanker jobs. My impression of the OP's original reason not to go for the McDonalds job was the commute into NY City everyday as opposed to the actual job. I can't imagine a multi hour commute for a 12 hr a day local job.

I already got the job with the union. Thanks to already gone for pushing me forward I am working for martin brower I passed the road test, and physical. I go monday for orientation. My everyday pay for training which will be 2 weeks or more is 179.00 a day. They are not hiring any new drivers at this time, I guess I was very lucky. They have about 60 trucks all in good shape 10 speeds internationals.
