GOOD FOR YOU! you won't regret it. now don't ever look back at any of these OTR joke companies, as you have a real job now, that isn't designed around the revolving door/recruiting bs that comes with ALL OTR companies. and they can't take away pay or benefits without ASKING you first. you have the probably the most secure job in trucking right now, running foodservice for a teamsters union represented company around NYC. Congrats!

ps. invest in good boots. I have a pair of these, and the day instantly got easier. http://www.carolinashoe.com/item.asp?ItemID=1309

anything by carolina, redwing, or thurogood should be good. make sure to get something that can be resoled.

Absolutely the most honest, informative thread that I have had the pleasure of reading in the past 10 years ON ALL OF THESE BOARDS!!

HOP....you worked with some solid background and thoughts on what you want out of life.

As for these hobos (lovingly said) that are advising you. Wow, you were lucky to have such a great bunch responding! Some genuine folks with a multitude of experience across the board.

    Now get to work!:biggrin_25522:

I got to wear shorts in the summer, you wear a company uniform correct? I saw everyone basically wearing the logo brand.

yeah, our company uniforms are all black! we look like security guards, but i don't mind. the uniforms are nice, they aren't cheap doritex uniforms with two patches on a generic shirt.

Our's are all blue we look like correction officers lol. I went out last night with a friend of mine to practice on his truck, he let me use his truck after he finished his loads to drive around for 4 hours. Like I said I was a little rusty but I finally got the pattern back down again, so when Monday comes I can go in and kick a55. :biggrin_2559: Today I will be going out again this time with a trailer hooked to it so I will have another 4 hours practicing backing up, then Saturday a combination of both. It took me nearly 20 minutes to figure everything out again, I was amazed on what I still know.

My opinion you made an excellent decision. In 20-30 years you will look back and be ever so glad you did what you did. Word of caution no jumping off the trailer, none, zero, nada. Crawl down, protect your back and knees and do not try to be Superman picking stuff up. Look after the body so it can look after you.

One other thing try and go to your shops Union meetings. I know you are gonna be tired after working all day,GO ANYWAY. Introduce yourself to your BA,get to know him. Be seen! The day could come when you need his help.
