I guess i'm on a roll here,so one more piece of advice. Do not get in the habit of stopping at the bar with the guys after work. That habit of stopping could become a habit. Use that hard earned money to take care of your family, not the Bar owners family.

don't just go to the meetings for your companies contract, go to the general membership meetings as well. be involved, get a copy of the contract that you work under, otherwise you will be misinformed by co workers. if you have questions, ask the BA, don't ask at work, as every one you ask will give you a different answer. you will see very quickly that even people at a union shop don't take the time to find out what they actually have, and most have never seen the contract, or have one themselves. the only person that will have a straight answer for you is your BA.

Well yesterday was my first day of training. I have good news, and bad news, the good news is the job is great, my trainer is awesome, the atmosphere is cool. I went out around 1pm running loads to McDonald 4 stops which was not bad just one store that had a new guy working there that didn't know how to count the cases and ended out making our day longer than expected. We ran NY runs which where based out in queens alot of traffic and people I have to basically get used too and my trainer is willing to coach ne threw the whole process. The bad news I got injured on my first day at work. You ask how the hell did this happen? Well while I was in the trailer sorting some boxes out getting them ready to be handed over the McDonald employee who was handling the freight to be put away While I went to climb back down off the trailer one of the McDonald employee left a bread rack on the sidewalk that could not be seen since it was almost underneath the truck but not quite so, visibility was minimal since it was 9 pm already and my trainer was doing something else at the time I was climbing down, no one really noticed what had happen since it happened so fast. while I was stepping down off the truck my foot slipped on the bread rack forcing my foot to go the opposite direction, I ended out bruising (spraining my foot) The McDonald employee where nice they gave me ice in a glove had me sit down and was there for about 20 min icing my ankle. When we got back to the office I had to fill out a incident report I'm not sure what is going to happen hopefully they will not fire me on my first day, what do you guys think? When I got home about 1am I ran a bucket of hot water with espom salt and soaked my foot in it for about 1 hour. I had my brother run to the 24 hour Walgreen to buy me icy hot and a bandage.I can walk o it but with minimal movement i could walk up and down the stairs but kind of in a limping motion. I asked the dispatcher at the time what will happen he said thy will probably tell me not to come to work? Does this mean they aren't going to hire me because of what a McDonald employee left on the sidewalk to cause my injury? I will be calling the office at about 11am to see what is going on hopefully I will hear some good news, if not I will be really pissed off.

I think it will be a 50/50 call because from all the safety meetings I have been in you are supposed to look before you climb down and look where you are going before going. So I dont really know good luck.

just play dumb with any questions, blame it on the mcdonalds worker. watch where you step man, its up to you to maintain your footing! i know that sounds dumb, but seriously, if you can't see where you are stepping, either don't step there, or get some hand holds and feel it out before you set your weight on it. the place where i work, i see who gets injured, and i know why they are hurt. guys rush, and they don't feel like pulling out a ladder, and try climbing up a wet round tire, slipping off, or they dont want to get their pants wet and take a seat or a knee to crawl out the back of the trailer. they jump, and sprain their ankle, and boom, same thing.

Just chalk it up to "lesson learned"....the same way I learned to ALWAYS inspect the ground before you step out of your tractor OR trailer....geez, that hurt....stupid curb wasn't supposed to be there!:biggrin_2556:
