Why not flush the system and just add water and see what happens. If nothing happens replace with water-antfreeze. The less antifreeze the cooler your temps will be.

thanks, but I thought I read on the antifreeze jug the protection ratio & the more antifreeze the better high & low temp protection?

drained out all coolant, put in 1 -1/2 gal simple green concentrate & 9 gal water. letting it run now. it at operating temp. 30 min should do it.

I did have a head gasket go long time ago.over a mil miles ago, but at that time coolant was pushing out of overflow hose from surge tank. it is not doing that now. I may have a small crack in head & maybe it expands & leaks when it gets hot? I don't know.

The best way to flush is to use dawn dish washing detergent. One cup per 5 gal. Of warm water. Run to operating temp. Repeat until clear. It can NOT be oil. Oil floates.

well this was a longer than expected. but I got it flushed out. took several times. a few hours to flush the cleaner thru than get it all out, but after all, I did not see anything of concern, I am leaning towards head issue. I will know on my next load how it does, no work tomorrow, will likely drop off at shop next week & have head rebuilt or whatever is done when having head work, & anything that should be done, like inj, cup, o rings, tubes, e.t.c.

BS There's lubricating and rust prohibitors in antifreeze. Your vehicle will run cooler without it. My son has an engineering degree. Got a job at a research and devopment company that designs radiators. Didn't work there two days and calls and says Dad your right about antifreeze not running cooler.
