Hey guys. I am currently 17 but I want to start trucking after I turn 18. I have my car license and am saving up for a truck drivers school here in Sacramento. What kind of jobs can I get and where?![]()
Help me out.....?

As such a young age you will not find very many employers willing to let you drive a commercial vehicle. It is nothing personal, but insurance regulations we'll make it #### near impossible for you to get a job driving truck. I would suggest if you really want to drive for a living, find a lumber yard or contractors supply place that has small delivery trucks or an auto parts store that has a delivery service and start there.
If you can prove yourself to be safe and reliable with a small vehicle eventually you'll get the chance to move into a big truck.
Best of luck to you. -

Hello and Welcome to the Site
I would suggest that you try to get some heavy equipment experience with a local construction company. Some of them do help to train you to get your CDL, as needed.
If there are any truck repair shops or trucking companies, near you, apply for an entry level position. You could learn a lot about the profession, inside and out.
Keep us posted as to your progress!!!
Best of Luck -

When I was your age, I worked Saturdays and summers for a small truck line as a wash boy. I also helped their trailer mechanics, and fueled outbound rigs. Parts chasing with the company pickup was the best part of the job.

You have received a lot of good advice. I learned to drive in the Army, and never looked back. You still have several years before you can go OTR, you can waste the time or put it to good use.
Good Luck to you on your quest, and many safe miles.
