Answer to the original question...
"IF" you have ran Amps before, and are familiar with how to set one up so you don't smoke it the first time you Key the Mic, then I would suggest Davemade..."Why?" mainly because it is the Amp most of the others are copied after...
The guys who build Fatboy, XForce, and a few others, originally got start by working with Davemade. Their designs have changed slightly since starting their own line of Amps, but Davemades are still being built the same way they were when Dave himself was building Amps for people...Dave still builds for friends, or friends of friends from what I understand, but not to the general public...(this part is just from what I have herd, so it may or may-not be totally true)
Joe in the Carolinas is the builder of just about all Davemade box's available now. He also got his start with Dave, and insists he has kept the original design intact and hasn't changed anything.
I own quiet a few Davemades...2-pill, 1x4, 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, and a 16 pill, and never had a problem with any of them.
As for the Connex 3300, I'm not a big fan of Connex...No particular reason, only one I ever had was the 3300 with the Rebel Flag face, which was ok, just didn't think the receive was all that great...Same go's for the General lee...basically the same radio as the Connex 3300, and is a Audio monster, but IMO the receive is not that great...
The Stryker 447 has more punch than either the General Lee or the Connex 3300, and a better receive, plus is around the same price range.
As for what size Amp to go with the 3300, if your looking at Amps like Fatboy/Davemade/XForce, then either a 1x4 or 2x4 or larger will work just fine...Just depends on how deep your pocket book is, and if you have enough power to run it.
hope that helps...... -
i may have a hook up getting either a 1x4 or 2x4 davemade used. i like their reviews and the way they look. i know looks dont mean much but im just making an observation. i havent heard much good about the strykers execpt that they light up the whole cab at night. but i did start this thread to get info on all brands.

so do all the new general lees have the mosfet finals?
-
The New ones do. If you want to talk skip look into a good radio with SSB.
You can talk all over and most of the time don't even need your box on.
I am a big Galaxy fan ( do have a 3300 HP as my spare ) There are a number
of duel final Galaxy's that will drive a 2x6 DM very nicely. And so will the 3300 HP. Or you could use the 3300 into a Texas Star 667.
Now keep in mind when you get into fire in your wire you are opening a whole new can of worms.
Just any old truck stop coax will not do the job, nor Antenna, or wires. Just some things to think about, no one else brought up.
Me I run a Galaxy 98VHP into an 8 pill with a 200 amp motor maul, 213 coax an a Predator 10-K antenna.
Welding cable for wires, and lots of Grounds. An a 200 amp alternator.
Shot me a PM if you want I'll be glad to help.
And before the Hammy's chime in, I have my Gen.ticket so I don't want to hear it.
On another note What's going on JJD? What are you doing here?? -
JJD, is there an amp available that can be run behind a Connex 4600 turbo keying up about 10 watts and swinging about 200? Something in the 500+ watt range?
-
400+ on the low side just loafing the amp.
Hit the amp on the high side and it will swing
over a grand. -
so what is the difference in a straight 4 pill and a 1x2 or 1x4 or 2x4
-
Where as in a 2x6 the 2 pills are the drivers for the 6 pills. -
Poorboy,
Do you own the truck or will the company allow you to put in an amp like those?
Those suckers draw a lot of amperage and it may be more of a pain in the arse for you then just running 200-300 watts
