Farmers are pretty savy businessmen. If you can survive and prosper from farming then you should be able to survive in any business. Farmers are pretty good at figuring things out and most have good common sense.

Not all farmers receive government subsidies. Many who are receiving subsidies are large corporate farmers. I have never thought it a good idea to pay someone to not plant certain crops. Subsidies to all businesses should cease. Trucking and railroads also receive huge subsidies. Most trucking companies don't receive any sort of subsidies, but the major training carriers do (or did) receive government subsidies for training new drivers.

Some truckers could not make it if all their expenses were paid by the government. Some truckers are already working with someone else's money and still can't make it. Just look at the rates that some are hauling freight. There are some that think they are making money just because they have cash flow. In reality, they are going further into the hold with each load. -

I will say...I do honestly believe my husband earned everything he acquired. The man loves to work and he is so frugal that he lived at home and saved literally every penny he earned working 2 full time jobs plus farming until he had enough in the bank to start buying a little chunk of land here and there. He never owned a car, new clothes, etc...When I met him, I was a bartender in college and I almost called security over because I thought he was homeless!! He still has that mentality..for better, or worse.
I do think you guys are giving me the best advice I could ask for. It is too bad that are a few rare criminal out there that give a bad name to all the stellar, honest, hard-working drivers. I do have my eyes wide-open now. I am having a mechanic come over to govern the trucks this weekend. If the guys complain, I will tell them the truth..we really need to cut expensess fuel-wise and also, we get an insurance break as well.
