    Scenario

You are a well qualified, physically fit experienced hand in this business. You've got 25yrs +/- under your belt in all climates, all regions, dragging all types of wagons. Now, changing companies because your present gig of 5 years is coming to an amicable end (owners retiring & closing down), you have narrowed your next home down to two companies - and the two companies are night and day different in equipment and commodity, but you're a super trucker, known worldwide and definitely a legend in no one's mind but your own, LOL, but that's okay because you misplaced that somewhere years ago... LOL ... Anyway, you're comfortable with the equipment, you've done due diligence, blah-blah-blah but you can't break the dead heat the two are tied in, in your mind. So, all other things being equal for this poll, except the following, would you choose:

    Company A
Company A is all refeer, all the time. No Canada, No Mexico, NO NYC, No TWIC, No Hazmat, No Tanker. All 100% No-touch. LOW cpm, BUT high miles - avg. company driver in upper $50's to mid $60's.

    Company B
Company B, for you, will all tanker, all the time. Foodgrade, chemical, etc. TWIC, X, etc. required. Canada & NYC regularly. Potential for driver ld/unld multiple times weekly (well, hooking up hoses), likely a lot of sitting.
HIGH cpm BUT lower than desired miles - avg company driver in mid $60's, but a lot of that is accessorial pay, if you get it.

Vote in poll at head of thread. Thanks!

Reefer is the absolute worst trucking jobs.
Not going to get a lot of miles constantly sitting and waiting at shippers and receivers.
    Nothing worse.

That's a no-brainer. Company B seems like it entails significantly less work for the same money.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

Do you mind throwing chains? What is your hometime frequency need? How do they compare with regard to idle policy or APU and other added perks (not part of pay)?

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

How does tanker translate to less work compared to no-touch reefer? Have you ever done chemical tanker work in the south in summer time?

scythe08 and flatbeb mac Thank this.

If you are so experienced, why are you settling for 50 or 60 grand?

str8t10, sdaniel, Lepton1 and 2 others Thank this.

And why get paid less so you can work harder?

Likely you'll be home more regular with tanker job and for more or less the same money potential (if home time is important) because "significantly more miles" means less time home OR less time sitting, one or the other.

Neither sound like a good job to me. I've never done refer and never will.
Tanker I have an interest in doing but probably never will.
Really hard to say which is better without the pay scale provided. CPM and accessorial pay.
    Good luck.
