The recap at the front of alot of logs only confused me, and I'm pretty good at math stuff. So if the log page didn't have the recap on the side of it to write down the previous 7 days line 3/4 totals and add that up to figure you available time today I just did it myself. Just seemed easier that way.
Help me understand the 8 days/70 hours/34 hour reset particulars

Awesome guys....appreciate the information. Sad because none of the other drivers that I work with told me about this. I was always under the impression that I had to do a 34 at 8 days. Thanks again!
farmboy73 Thanks this. -
I'm sorry, but posts like these, and the one asking about scaling loads, shows that these short training periods companies now have, and that all these new drivers want, do not work. This should have been covered and explained in depth in training.

My drivers go out for three days, sometimes four, and come back home for at least three days. Why would i EVER train them on recap hours?
-
Because of those times when they will have to be out longer?
-
That's correct explained.
If you plan to run into Canada, there will be slightly different rules:
You have a 70/7 rule, gives you 10 hrs per day average.
BUT you can't go forever like in the US. If you run on recap you have to take a 24 hrs off within 14 days after starting that circle.
A full reset has to be 36 hrs.
These are the three differences between CAN and US.
If you're legal in US, you'll be OK in Canada. -
Its the nature of the beast. Even if companies trained twice as long that still does not mean that. everyone would retain all the information that was presented to them. You have so many different people from different educational backgrounds in trucking. Blend that in with all the rules and regs. Then you should understand why the knowledge base can range from college graduate/dropout to brain dead.

Going to be hard to do.... we only haul our own live fish. after 24 hrs, we've got bigger problems than recapping log book hours. Not everyone hauls random loads for hire.

Haven't read all replies, so if this has been explained, my apologies, but no you do not have to take a 34' if you stay no more than 8.75 per day, you will have 8.75 ever day, 8x8.75=70, but if you do exceed the 8.75, and you reach or get close to 70 before the 8th day, you will need to take a 34 in order to gain hours back
