Please tell me how to override the shutdown on my peterbilt 386. It's hot and my truck keeps shutting down after 5 min!

    1) Hit the brake, clutch, or accelerator when your dashboard warning light goes on just before shutdown.

    2) Hit the brake and the accelerator at the same time just after you start idling. I've heard this does the trick and you can idle forever. I haven't tried this yet because my truck has been in the shop since I heard about this.

Im thinking with the 386 it's a computer deal. You may have to have a computer over ride to fix the problem, like take it to a shop. But if it's a company truck, your stuck with it.

Idle it up slightly. If it has a Paccar motor it needs to be reprogrammed.

Thx for the info. I tried everything and the cruise doesn't set unles truck is moving. I guess it is a computer problem. That's all I can figure.

it's not a computer problem. it's a computer spec. as in, it's how the company has the ecm set up.

i had that problem on a freightliner. i was able to keep idle on by pulling trailer park valve instead of truck park valve. leaving the truck park valve pushed in. it was in a dump truck through. so if i didn't have the pup trailer. then i was screwed.

the ecm has all kindsa parameters that can by set by the company.

the truck i'm in now. doesn't have jake break in gears 1 - 5. i'm gonna have that problem solved next time i have a computer diagnostics. should have done it when i had the turbo diagnosed that turned out to be the egr pressure sensor.

bunch of smart truckers the trucks are programed to shut down on outside temp to hot it Wil stay running My computer is +30c so go to the store get a hand warmer and tape it to the sensor that gives you the (need a half of a brain to figure out what two words are missing) don't blab to everyone or they will find a different way of stopping it don't know what type of bunk heat or engine heat you are using but -25c is survivable just shut the sleeper curtains
    Bunch of sissies
