To get up to that HP you will more than likely have to do quite a bit of modifications, injectors, possibly turbo. I would leave it alone, get her mechanically sound and go make some money. Unless you need that kind of HP, but then why did you buy the motor? I remember when a well tuned Cat 425 was the big boy on the block.
wore out and Oldironfan Thank this. -
CAT can do a software upgrade, IDK if they stopped doing that or not, call them and find out.

Justrucking2 Thanks this.

Good motors, no denying that. Just make sure on the parts, a lot of crap stuff out there that you do not want near that motor.

Just dial in that engine with a good CAT mechanic. The more power you make the faster the engine will wear out. And the faster your wallet will be empty when you use a lead foot.

So it can be pushed at least to 525hp I don’t want more than that. The last thing I want to do is brake stuff

Personally, with a good tune, I would leave it be. I have a 600hp factory Cummins under my hood, and have it set at 450hp and 1650 on the torque. It pulls just fine, and the best part is the fuel economy.
