Well after further inspection the crack or fracture more or less was located above one of the 2 bolt flange embossments in the block that the oil cooler mounts (supply side I think) but I stated earlier that it started from a plug in the galley I was wrong. The crack started from nowhere, not a hole or plug or casting line..... nothing it just showed up. I am going to attemp one more time to patch it tomorrow but even after dye penetrant on the crack and drilling a pilot to stop it the crack went another direction today as I heated it to braze. So now i do believe Im effffed! I didnt think patching was the best Idea and I appreciate the advice but It was something to get by for a bit. As far as the motor coming apart under power "oh well" with a cracked block its junk anyway and Id have to replace it, if I cant fix it still gets replaced. It looks like Ill be making phone calls in the AM to get this to a shop ASAP to get the motor done only thing is I dont know where I want to take it. I really dont like our CAT dealer because they are REALLY slow and I wanted to do something a little more than stock with this motor if I had to do one but we dont have any shops around here that do stuff like bigger injectors maybe cam turbo etc... But i guess a good warranty is probably the most important right now. Ill give an update later when I get it back if I can still afford to type :biggrin_2559:

P.S. If someone has a shop they reccomend CAT or otherwise, somewhere within a couple hours or so from north central Iowa Im open to suggestions.

Tony goes by YNOT on the diesel garage forum. He is very knowledgable and should be able to take care of the issue.

I know it's about a five hour drive but I've heard Altorfer's in East Peoria,Il is really a top notch Cat house. I've been told they dial the engine in on a dyno after an overhaul. Just my two cents worth.

Well I made a bunch of phone calls last monday and pondered the best solutions, after talking to Tony's diesel in Sioux Falls it learned this isnt the first time one of these blocks have broke like this. I also learned that due to the placement of the crack that if I could get it fixed it would be temporary at best. I now have a 6TS 550/1850 crate motor between the rails with 4yr/400k mi warranty they just finished it today but the only problem is it doesnt recognize that there is a throttle:biggrin_25513: I was pretty happy to think I would get to have it to start the week on monday but thats not going to happen.. Hope they can find the problem asap monday, I was looking for wiring data on it just to see if I could figure it out but I found none. I do remember a few fuses behind the main dash panel but I dont know if any have anything ot do with the throttle position sensor otherwise a wire must have gotten broke or something during the swap.

If the Personality Module Code isn't programmed in the ECM it will not respond to the throttle also. No matter what it is you should have a check engine light on.
