you take a copy of the lease to your laywer or a laywer that is not connected to the company to have the check it over.
I have been told you should not lease from the place you are employed by.

    Exactly

if they won't let you have a copy of the lease to examine, walk away. No.. run. fast. you will almost certainly be digging your financial grave at a place like that.

Also, the reason you don't lease from your employer is by doing so you give him both ends of the stick. You are in a worse position than a company driver because you can NOT leave until the lease is paid off - and the company controls your miles. Sure, most companies are probably reasonably honest and won't burn you as the end of the lease nears - but why give them the opportunity?

Another thing to think about... frequently, especially with larger companies, by the time the lease expires, the truck is too old to meet the company's updated standards - so they won't renew your contract, or hire you as an O/O. ( I ran across this one talking to a suffering trucker I met at the Biggs, OR, Pilot)

The lease drivers at May Trucking are doing alright but that has been a while since I talked to them before the cost fuel went through the roof.
