Thinking about joining Schneider Truck Driver | Paid CDL Training Program | Chicago, IL & Northwest Indiana for Schneider. new to trucking and looking for company that will get me CDL. i understand that i have to get experience in order to make decent money. this opportunity is school 4 weeks, 17 days orientation and training with driver and then im on my own. out 11 days home 3. mostly drop and hook no touch freight. 32cpm 2,200 ---2,500 miles per week. 1 yr commitment.

what i like about Schneider is that home terminal is out of gary indiana which is 30 min from my house. unlike other company's which are out of green bay and many hours away. anyone have experience with this program, i know im not gonna get rich but what new no experience drivers does at first..

Go for it, I think they use Star Truck driving school. I went there for my CDL and I'd say it's one of the better if not the best truck driving schools in the Chicago area.

17 days with a trainer isn't too long (unless I read that wrong- which is entirely possible lol) for a new driver... If you're ready, its awesome.. If not it can be an issue.. I guess my only question would be if you didn't feel comfortable after those 17 days could you get some extended training?

Other than that minor issue it sounds good.. You also sound like you're getting into this with your eyes wide open, which is GREAT! Good luck

It's basically 7 days in the terminal doing all the orientation stuff and doing backing at the terminal then spending half a day each day driving around. Then there is a 7 day period out with the trainer. Then you get back to the terminal for about 3 days where they test you out.

It doesn't sound like much training, and really it's not. But at the same time just because a company keeps you out with a "trainer" for 2-3 months doesn't make it any better necessarily. Most every one of these starter companies just take advantage of the students and run them with the so called "trainers" as team drivers for months and the "trainer" makes out while the student is basically locked into a poor situation. If after the 7 day period with a trainer they feel you are not ready they will give you additional training unless you showed that you are completely and utterly clueless, which doesn't take that long to figure out if you are a complete moron or if you have the capacity to learn.

Question, okay, statement first then question. I am now looking for another school and company to train with. I had another company in mind, but it will have been 2 weeks since my physical and nothing. I need a future. Is this company women friendly?

Exactly. One asleep while the other drives. How that is considered "training" is beyond me.

Yeah, the main location is in Hickory Hills, 95th and 76th ave. They also have locations in South Holland (south suburban college), Oswego and Bensenville I believe.
