Emulsified, not all logbooks go from midnite to midnite. Saia is an example..their's run from noon to noon. Yes, actually printed from noon to noon. Not busting your chops, just pointing it out is all. Nana when your 34 is finished there are no previous 7 or 8 day hours to enter because they were reset at the end of the 34.

I never fill in the recap. It's not a DOT requirement. It's more for a personal use and might be required by your company. DOT requires you keep 7 days logs in your possession and they will add them 7 days up manually. They won't trust your math on your recap.
On our company logs the recap is on the inspection report and I leave them blank.
I'll fill in the long recap on the cover page to keep track. But that's like every 4 days and when I get close. Resets like you said, I'll put reset off to the side just so I know.
The recaps on a log page I would leave blank if the company has no problems. If it's a scannable log, the scanner doesn't like zero's. It prefers nothing for zero's. Our company uses the Peoplenet to keep up with your hours.
It's a personal preference and both of you are right. -
I recapped in a notebook....ie I used my calculator and added up my time...if I was over I adjusted things.....LOL gotta ..just gotta love loose leaf logs

I alway's call it a restart instead of a reset. Makes my federal document's look and sound better with that extra little "zing" to it!
I think my orange juice is to tangy this morning as well.

Glad I don't have to worry about that 70 hour stuff. I get a reset every weekend, so I am back to zero before I have to worry about it. In fact, I even have the hours at my disposal to show a little extra time on duty for some of those things the rest of you might not log, just because I think it looks good to DOT on a logbook check.
The end of day on my logs is midnight, so I don't care so much about your 9am thing. I recap how things sit at midnight, and don't worry about how it was at the middle of the day, only at the end. For example, I will have two days off this weekend, but will start driving at 11:30pm on the second day, so my recap will only show one zero.
For my hours left on the recap, I reset to 70 after my 34 hours off, since that's what's actually available.
But, I still show my 7 and 8 day as to what I actually worked those days. Meaning that I do not go back to zero after a 34. That makes this number worthless in figuring out anything to do with my 70 and I don't think doing it this way follows the intent of a recap. But, what it says is hours worked in those days, and nothing about adjusting for a reset. So, I go for what it says and not what I think they actually mean.
At this point, it is nothing more to me than a company requirement, because of my weekends off. If I were running a more typical OTR schedule, I think I would have to change those 7 and 8 day figures to compensate for a 34 so that it would actually give me the benefit it should. -
davenjip, I work four days a week, Mon - Thurs 11 hours a day but no point in crowing about it is it?

I would hate to see how some of you youngters would have managed the OLD 70/8 with NO resets allowed. The time in your book was all you had everyday and you better maximize your time also. There was no such thing as a resests yes we could stop the clock but still it was harder to manage hopurs than you think not having the option to sit for 34 hours and have a fresh 70 there.
