I know te transmission this guy is talking about. Its an eaton synchro six. There is no brain work behind it. i is to be shifted like a car or any reguar diesel pickup truck. I have driven one a few times. They are junk transissions. They get abused and wore out quick. The only reason the trans is grinding is becuase the snchros are all banged up. Float shifting helps a bit but it will be very notchy and still dificult for this guy. double clutching will absolutely not make this trans shift smooth either. Even float shifting this trans will ot be smooth at all like a 18 speed or13 or 10speed. Its junk. But good luck anyone brotha. Find a truck without that trans.
CruzControhl, Bean Jr. and Humblepie Thank this. -
"So easy - a truck driver can do it?"
My wife's nephew drove mine once.
He was operating Excavators, tri-axle dumps, and backhoes for awhile - I thought he could handle it.
Took it about 2 miles, and I got a call to come rescue him. Barely able to move it to get it home in 3rd gear with 2/3 of the teeth missing. He totally ruined it; cost me 3 grand and 3 days work.
I don't think they're junk, but they sure can't take misuse or just plain stupidity.x1Heavy Thanks this. -

Ill admit i started out funky...i have nothing to practice on...i got one practice session a month ago. By the end of the test i had it together. Its just new to me thats all...i got up to six and back to to second and back to the yard.
Cam Roberts and speedyk Thank this. -
Also it threw me off because it must be a Canadian truck..the speedometer is un kilometers. .of course it has mph but very small..it throws you off at first..

Ive owened 7 5spd cars now...im very well inclined...although its not exactly the same there are alot of similarities. Dont lug the engine, take rpms a little higher for more power, shift early for fuel economy, no money shifts : )...
Use accelerator pedal when needed between shifts (rev matching) to make adjustments to rpms when needed...etc..
Just new to me thats all, feels a bit different.Cam Roberts Thanks this. -
Went in early asked for a few pointers. I was accidentally shifting to 2nd to 5th going up 2nd to 3rd going down sometimes. Got a better feel tor the sidewalls and took my time....and conquered!
