Ok hold on a second thats a very vague answer. why is the 2010 the worst years?
is the motor production line bad?
    is it the dpf?
what makes the 2010 trucks such a bad pruchase?
Im NOT trying to be a jackwagon, im trying to understand. MAYBE theres something im missing, maybe theres something I had not thought through
Im negotiating with a dealer right now a 2010 386 483,000 on the clock ISX 485 under the hood
looks like an O/o had it.

'09 - '10 ISX engines put a lot of soot back in the oil. The crank case breather would plug first, then oil pressure would drop to below 20psi running down the road when it should be around 45psi. This would happen around 20k after an oil change with no bypass filtration. Fleet trucks oil on an ISX is changed at 35k most fleets. With oil not getting were it should be, those motors will need major work if the liners haven't cracked and been replaced already. Not to mention the ceramic parts in the fuel pump. When that cracks and gets in the Cylinder, it wipes out a motor.

I'd avoid the ISX 08-12. Not as bad as MAXXFORCE, but not much better.

With one truck you have a certain niche you can fill. With two trucks the hassle increases.

What I have noticed around here is that you either have one truck and drive it yourself or you have 10 trucks. Not much happens in between that is really a benefit to you. With 10 trucks you now have a small fleet that can handle the larger customers. Someone with 2-4 trucks will run into needing 5-6 at once for a specific customer and so on. Once you hit the 10 truck level the pressure seems to taper off and you have the trucks to cover the ones that break down.

Oh wonderful, what is the fix? how do I indentify if this motor:
    1. has this issue of the soot clogged breather being plugged?
    2. would a dyno and oil sample help?
wholey moley a BIG thanks I was unaware of that issue with the ISX Cummins
Well im stuck in Cali and I HAVE to be CARB compliant have heard about the class action against Cat C13 -C15 But if I HAD to pick I would take the C15.
I swear, I just want to buy a 2005 2007-8 379 Pete with either ISX pre-emission or the CAT pre emision. But just one fine from CARB would put me out of business but so would bad motor on an 2009-2010.
I guess I have few more questions for the Stealership on Monday, one of wich will be demanding a full drivetrain warranty

Please don't buy that year model........ Stay away from '08 thru '10. I believe '11 is when they started using DEF. lots less in maintenance over the long run.

Drivetrain isn't the problem it's with the exhaust emissions. That will not be covered under any warranty.
