Boyfriend recently finished driving school and has his CDL-A and fed med card. He has NO experience. Based on the info below, can anyone recommend good OTR or regional companies? He prefers regional but knows that may not happen as competition for those jobs is stiff and they usually require experience. I plan to go riding with him when our apartment lease is up in a few months, but we are not married so need a company where rider policy extends beyond immediate family.
-Based out of Lansing, MI at present
-Prefers to avoid NYC and Canada if possible
-Will drive dry van or reefer, prefers to avoid flatbed
-He's 6'3 and needs a truck with room to stand up straight and sleep stretched out
-Prefers manual transmissions
-Reacts badly to being screamed at (I've heard of Stevens Transport referred to as "Screamin' Stevens")
-Home time is not really a priority since I will be with him on the truck; he just does not want to sit around waiting.
-No moving violations or other tickets of any kind
-No DUIs or other criminal convictions of any kind
-He has one mark on his DAC report for quitting TransAm during training because his trainer was not available to answer hubby's questions because he was on his cell phone arguing with his girlfriend constantly, and nearly caused two accidents because he repeatedly obstructed hubby's view of his mirrors. Also he was a screamer.
Also, we have family scattered all over the country. Is it possible to take "home time" in different places? Such as visit my family in Kansas one month, and his family in Michigan the next month, and my friends in Washington after that, depending of course on where the dispatcher has us at the time? I know you need to kiss the dispatcher's behind and never turn down loads or complain about them, but assuming he cultivates a decent working relationship with dispatch, is it possible to take home time at different places if we are flexible about what days we take home time?
Any recommendations about the best "starter companies" would be immensely appreciated.
