Hey ya'll, I am just finishing my 2nd week of trucking school. We started double clutching yesterday. I was terrible on the simulator. Is there any tips or hacks that can help increase my performance of double clutching?

It takes awhile to get used to, one of the ways I learned is shift as fast as saying clutch neutral, clutch (gear number) before the RPM drops too low. Like example with a Detroit, you want to run your RPMs up to 1500, and clutch neutral clutch gear before they drop to 1300. You have to be fairly quick with it

The vast majority of people have problem with this, its normal.. give it a little time.. don't be afraid to talk though the shifts out loud.. it helps. just like a chant.. tap neutral.. tap shift... tap neutral.. tap shift. Remember that most people have problems double clutching because they push the clutch in too far engaging the clutch brake. Think of the clutch pedal during this as a hot iron. you just tap the clutch.. You have to get used to (and physically able) to basically hang your leg in outter space just above the clutch pedal,

You raise the rpms progressively then tap the clutch move the shifter at the same time... foot and hand move together when shifting! when you tap the clutch you move to neutral and very quickly in the lower gears do it AGAIN! Tap the clutch and move the shifter into the next higher gear..

Just float them then you don't have to double clutch! I know some companies require you to do it that way! Don't push it, they will grind every time!!
    Good Luck.

I learned to double clutch in 12/99.. CDL training and testing Little Rock AR..2 weeks later at SRT (Southern Refrigerated Trans) I was taught to Float gears..

If I had to double clutch now? They would take my license away!

learn to float, and fake it on the test, granted on steep grades (going up, not down, never shift going down) I can double clutch easier then I can float (dont ask me how that works, i couldnt tell ya) but just use the addams family song, and remember to follow the snaps when you do it, thats what helped me learn it...the other thing my first trainer had me do that worked (and i know im gonna catch he double hockey sticks for even saying this) is doing it with the jake on, which I dont reccomend
