Hello! I have been a driver for over 20 years and I am not happy with the company I am with now, and Im looking to go to KLLM but just have some things I need from one of there drivers... Is it true I would not have to run New York City and Canada? What kind of yearly income would I be looking at with 20 years under me? Also what are there primary running lains, I like running west. And what they are really like with the drivers?
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks
    Big Daddy :biggrin_25525:

My husband has worked for KLLM for two years. He says that none of the drivers go to Canada, they just swap the trailers with a Canadian driver like they do for Mexico down in Laredo. His permit book contains all the stuff necessary for entry to Canada, so I don't know if maybe at one time they did? He has never done NYC so I can't answer that question.

Hope you like driving 61 mph that is what there trucks run. That is what the last driver told me that worked there. He said he usually runs about 2000 miles a week. Can't tell you for sure just what he told me.

The Company's meaning to "No NYC" is this: We don't do Manhattan. All other Burroughs and surrounding area we do. I have done Queens long time ago. Have done Long Island with them, no problems. Company does go to Hunt's Point but I myself have never gone there or will I and they know it.

As mentioned in other KLLM posts by myself, there is a Dedicated Driver that does Canada and only that Driver. I have done one of his routes when the Driver went on vacation last year; Winnepeg and Edmonton. So as far as an answer for the other people wanting to know if KLLM does Canada; only one Driver does and the Driver is a KLLM employee and not a Contractor from Canada. We only use Contractors when loads go in or out of Mexico.

Besides, in Orientation they ask if anyone wants to do Canada; either yes or no. Just say no and be done with it. Company doesn't "Black-ball" you if you say no. I said no many years ago but I went last year cause that Driver is a good friend of mine.

I have been in Trucks from 61 to 76 mph. You know which one I like the most.............. 61mph. On any given day I count at least 3 Trucks pass me at least 3 different times while I'm driving. They just can't keep that left door shut.

I like driving alone and at 61 you do. Every now and then you'll get in a "pack" of traffic. Just slow down, wait 5 minutes and you're back driving alone again. I have less stress and have no problems sleeping during my breaks. And I still make my appointments on time.

Oh, by the way; I average 3000mi a week if not more. During this 4 week tour, I had 3932 odometer miles in an eight day period. I think it was from May 11 to May 18. And with KLLM in any eight day period, you can drive 4131 miles. Do the math.

Well everyone has their preferences and i'm glad you like driving 61. I personally have driven trucks from 60mph up to triple digit trucks and I personally like the fast ones. I also keep my left door shut and stop an average of only once a day other than a delivery or pickup. I don't have stress and I also have no problem sleeping during my breaks or making appts on time. I run 3250 miles a week on my 2 dedicated runs and I'm home 3 days a week. I never said you could not make money driving a slow truck but, you obviously have to work alot more to make that money than I do. Just FYI in any eight day period I could drive 4900 miles. Guess I missed the point of your comparisons.

I drove for KLLM OTR for 2 years out of the Jackson terminal. Went to NYC 7 times. 3times to Hunts Point Market in the Bronx, 4 times at various places in Queens and Brooklynn.

Big Daddy, you could sure do alot worse than KLLM. I'm in my 4 week of road training now. My Trainer has been with the company about 12 yers and has done NYC once. He says they don't do Manhattan and many areas around the city. Th company doesn't like doing it, and they will not force the issue on anyone he says. They do alot out wesy. In fact, Most of the running we've been doing over the past weeks have been Illinois to California, California to Illinois, Pennsylvania to California, California to Texas. Everytime we go to a KLLM Customer in California, there are at least 10 or 15 other trucks in the same place. We've been running alot of the northern trek on I-80 through Nebraska and Wyoming, and back out there on I-40, sometimes down to I-10, depending on the customer. You will see the west, or at least we and lots of others are.
You can check with Ledbetter on the experienced pay scale. Read through our posts. If I can't say anything about this company, I will say they have been TOTALLY HONEST with me about everything. INCLUDING the RECRUITERS. Many recruiters promise you the moon and some gold along with it, but I was told the truth from the first phone call, until my recent paycheck. No B.S. AND, as long as you submit your paperwork, your check will be correct. Some folks don't like the 62 MPH trucks, but what do you want? Sit back, have some coffee, and drive.

I'm jealous, I wish they would run my husband on I-80 more. He almost never gets through here.
