Do you have any links with the information about airless tires next year??? What is your source?

Yes. When they are new those tread blocks really open up because they are tall and there is lots of leverage and the sipe goes about 3/4 of the way down but around 10/32 there isn't much flex. And at that tread level they really plugged up with slush very easily. I got through this last winter OK but noticed a lot more spin than other winters. This was my 4th winter on those tires.

My caps have the same block design and they totally suck. I am down around 12/32 tread left. They might be good for a trailer tire now, but for drives, they suck.

I am looking at a set of B710 recaps next month and also considering having a set of XDN2's just for winter driving.

The XDN2 is a lot narrower in a cap vs. original tire. It is 27/32 new.

I was talking to a t.c.i dealer about michelin retread technologies. they look like a real nice put together cap with a good casings. for $225.00 what do you folks think about caps on drives? I have never run caps anywhere anytime except for a spare until I got to my tire guy to buy new.

I run Bridgeston M726EL drives. I have 289k miles on this set right now and 24/32 left on them. My last set had 550k miles and still had 6/32 left

Not always true. depending on where you live and run. I run all highways and country roads never off road though but always run open shoulder because of snow and ice.

    SHC Thanks this.

caps are put together a lot better these days. I worked for a tire shop where we recapped for Michelin. Me personally I wont run recaps. I have half fenders, light bars, and other pretty stuff. A recap has more chance to come apart than a new tire does and all that stuff cost lots of money. I would rather spend alittle more on a new tire than save on a recap today and blow it apart in a month and have to replace a thousand dollars or more worth of chrome stuff also. right now I buy new tires recap my old and craigslist them when I get them back for less than the shop charges for a cap out the door with casing. save a guy bout 75 bucks each tire buying off me like that.

Yep, that's why I keep running them. They cost a lot more than other brands, but worth it if you ask me.

Maintaining proper tire pressure has everything to do with it. I also try to run as light as posiable at all times, which helps with the wear.
