Hey, I need help. I have an 09 international ProStar premium. With cummins 435hp and the ratio is 2.64.. When I drive 65mph the RPM is a lil over 1500 and I don't get good MPG.. And when I drive with RPM between 1100-1300 I save 2.6mile a gallon.
What's the way to lower RPM and keep my speed 65mph? Is that possible?
One of drivers told me to change the ratio is that right?

    2nd Q
What's the wheel base ? I see it a lot on truck paper magazines?

    3rd Q
Is any way I could do to give my truck the power to go up hill? Cause when I go up hill my truck is not has the power I need?

Look on the sticker in door jam to see the ratio

CK. the air ride leveling valve to be sure its not jacking your rear/ends up when you stop then its taking too long to let air back out to level it out so wheels wont spin when you start from a stop?

You can change your gear ratio and that can improve your mpg. I used to run an International with 354 gears and I averaged 6.29 mpg. It had good pulling power with that gearing. You first need to find out your current gearing.

Nice sir, and thank you. So 3.54 is good with 435HP engine.
What was HP of your engine ? And what manufacturing?
Does it effect if it's different engine manufacturer?

I ran a CAT 3406 engine with 445 hp on the ground with a Spicer 10 speed transmission. Some people say that CAT doesn't do as well as Detroit or Cummins when it comes to fuel mileage. I always got good fuel economy with CAT engines. Your driving habits will affect your mpg more than any other single factor. I mostly drive at or under 65 mpg, but would run that truck around 70 when I ran out west. I used to run Detroit engines, but got better fuel mileage with CAT. I still run CAT, but average 7 mpg or a little more with the truck I drive now. I keep my speed down and usually drive at 65 mph or less and I do more deadheading that I did at one time.
