Im working for a utility and dirt work company in ND and they dont seem to have a clue about the rules. p
one of their guys was picked up 30,000 overweight and another was caught and warned roading a scraper 65,000 overweight. Anyway I told them I had a very brief 1 week school running auto trucks but they stuck me in a an 8 speed manual water truck with no supervision and sent me pn a trip.
I asked their "trucker" about logbooks and he doesn't know how or when to fill one out.
Quiting would be.an obvious solution but I really need to hold out until I get another good offer.
Im going to head to the truck stop and buy a logbook and try to figure it out, also Im going to find out where there is a scale so I can weigh their trucks.
Any advice for preserving my cdl and clean record? this job has been 99% on site operating but they may be asking me to drive more on the road. They gave me a raise this season partially because i got my cdl but they took my word for it and have not asked to see it or anything else.
is it considered my fault if im picked up overweigt? What are the main issues I should focus on?
I would like to buy a good book on logbooks and other aspects if anyone can recommend one.

You can find a standard legal logbook at most truck stops and they usually don't cost that much. If your company doesn't want you to fill one out just do it yourself and keep it for your records. If you work less than 16 hours or don't drive more than 150 miles a day you don't really need one. Document everything and just cover your own butt. Same with your weight. Just weigh your load and keep the scale ticket. If you get pulled over for it just show them the ticket and let them know your company wants you to run with it. Like I said, just document everything you do and keep your butt covered.

umm...as for the over weight, if you get caught you will get the citation. Your boss may or may not pay it. If he does, great, if not, you will have too. It will be on your cdl, so follow thru to make sure it gets paid and paid on time.

With the csa 2010 going on both you and the company will get marks and some kind of point system. If your company keeps doing this eventually they will be shut down for having too many points and a unsatisfactory company according to the grades.
As far as the logs, Chompi is correct about the local driving, however if the company does not choose to do their logs according to the local rules you are still going to have to fill out your logs. Log books are easy to fill out and on most log books the rules are written out how they want it written on the log. It's usually on the front or on the back cover.
