Dump truck season is starting to wine down now I'm thinking of repainting the truck sometime this winter so called a local parts store with my paint code.
Wasn't 5 min later they called me back saying that there is no such paint code so while on the phone with them I go back out to the truck and read it off the sticker on the glove box.
I hear him punching away on the computer again says no such paint code I call my dealer and he confirms that I have the right code.
I'm wondering if I have to buy the paint from my dealer or can someone know of a place I can cross the code over to a current code I don't want to spend the extra $$$$$ to get it from the dealer.
I have been searching the internet to find something on it and nothing shows up or is my code discontinued so I cant find it now.
The body paint is easy to find its the cab is what needs it the most top side of the hood who ever repainted it must of been drunk when they did it.
There are thin spots and runs all over the hood and doors so to do it right I want to sand it down and repaint it.

Go to a regular body/paint supplier. Parts store may be looking for pre-mix or acrylic instead of imron elite.

Imron is DuPont,not PPG.

I just painted my old 359 wasn't sure what color it is. Went to Crow Burlingame, a Dupont dealer they have a scan gun type thing that tells them what color and how to mix paint for a match. Mine turned out to be 69 Hemi red. For 1.5 gallons of paint, hardner and reducer it was close to 1000.00 for Imron. Mine had the color changed years ago but I wanted to Keep it that red.

The wife reminded me that a former neighbor owns a auto body shop over the weekend I called him and gave him the paint code. Even he couldn't find it he called Freightliners head office to find out why even he couldn't find it. They changed the code and name of the color to AY96TH7 Prowler Purple Metallic. That code and color was only used for 6 months then it was removed so that's why no one could find the code. I don't know much about the scanner they use but he told me the scoring is from 0-200 mine was a 42 don't know what that means but he said the new paint will be a little darker.

An auto paint supplier will mix the paint and have codes listed. If you want I can go to town tomorrow and ask them for the color recipe for the above color. (subscribing to thread for your reply)

Yea I don't know much about it either. And I did an overall just wanted that red mine was really faded. I took one of the factory breathers to be scanned. On the side he scanned had been turned to truck and not really ever out in direct sunlight. At least you have it worked out, I have heard of paint codes changing as well. The way the guy that mixed it for me talked he could match fade etc. But he only sells paint. I would be more inclined to believe your neighbor that owns a body shop and mixes his own with similar equipment.

The problem with paint reading machines. They will round the color to a darker setting. Good luck on getting it if you can.

Can anyone tell me how to find the paint code
