    That's a huge question.....one that has been pondered by many a driver..some to have success and others to fail.........one thing about being an O/O is that you have to work smarter and harder than your competition which is huge in the industry.
    Another thing that many fail to take into account is being able to work on your own truck...you will save mega amounts of money

    check the threads that lil bit posted there is some good info there and look for some of Southern Prides threads he has some extremely good information and inspiration

    Well state permits vary by state....the fed dot # is around 300.00

    that is a toughy because there are so many factors that play into that.
    1. the age of the truck, trailer
    2. your age and experience level
    3. then you have to have liability, accident, load insurance, and so many others but a good ball park figure would be somewhere around 7500 a year and that won't cover ALL the insurance...that is just vehicle( that was a number I was looking at last year)

    Knowing what I know now if I was 16 I would kick the PLEEP out of my daddy before I thought about becoming a O/O and that way I would never see 17 or the chance to buy a truck. Stay in school get a good education go to college

    To become an o/o well start with truck cost-good truck around 50,000
    then insurence-progressive rates-7044.00 year with experiance
    Apportioned platt-400.00
    Ifta.varies state to state-
    authority-7000.00
    Trailer-dependin on trailer mine 16000.00
    Money aside for maintanence-10,000.00
    Tires-350 to 500 each
    Bottom line to do it rite is around 95000.00
