So, I'm going to try to make this brief. I'm currently working toward getting state funding in Michigan so i can go to CDL school. One of the requirements is to obtain 3 pre-hire letters, which is fine, except I'm wondering if my driving record will hinder me. I have nothing for the last 3 years, but my 5 year record is another story. between the begining of 2008 and the end of 2009, I have 2 Driving on Suspended tickets and 2 speeding tickets. Not that it matters, but 1 of the speeding tickets and DWS are from the same incident. I guess one thing i have going for me is no accidents. Today i talked with Werner Enterprises, they said my App is going to have to go in front of a review board.
My question is, how badly is that going to affect my chances of getting these pre-hire letters? And do the last 3 years with nothing help at all with a bad 5 year record?
And yes I am clear with state to get my CDL and currently have no points.
Any help is much appreciated, Thanks in advance.

I think having only 3 clean years is going to make obtaining a job with a decent carrier tough on you.
pattyj Thanks this. -
Don't let it stop you.... it will matter to some but not others.

How much over the posted speedlimit were you driving? That makes a huge difference in trucking.Anything over 15 mph is considered reckless and no company will touch you for 3 to 5 yrs.DWS could hurt you as well.

They were 10 over i believe, i did have a 20 over but that was in 2006. thanks for the quick replies.

I guess all I can say is keep trying. You may be facing a long road ahead.
-
considering the number of drivers with clean records....
You are at a major disadvantage.
My suggestion,
Write them down on your apps and don't comment on them. Let them bring it up. You were open and honest to bring them up. Leave em in the past otherwise.
Show up at ALL interviews EARLY. Clean cut. Clean cloths and present yourself in THE MOST professional manner you can. If you have to, go to a employment service and PRACTICE interviewing.
SHOW them up front it's behind you.
And do it without saying a thing about it. Your body language, appearance and demeanor will be your saving grace. -
