Im a recent driver who worked for MONSON and went through their training program. They recently had a lay off of 30 drivers which included me. My problem is that I am now stuck with only 7 weeks experience and I need a company that will hire me. I have learned a lot in my 7 week OTR and feel I am a very good driver. Bills are piling up and I need to get in some where fast. I live in Red Wing MN and have been pulling dry vans. I also have my hazmat. Does anyone in my area have any advise?![]()

I am not from your neck of the woods, but try looking at ATS. (Anderson)

I'm sorry to hear that. I worked there sevral times, They are the last company I would expect to lay anyone off.
I would try to look at Taylor (Northfield), Halvor Lines (Duluth- Superior), Lawrence (Winona). Being that you only have 7 weeks experience, you may end up having to choke it up and retrain, or at least be with a trainer for a few weeks. There is also Swift out of Inver Grove Heights but that would be my last resort.
I am considering going back into the military after a 8 year hiatus, if things really get bad. -
Prime is another possibility. We take a lot of crap on this board, but the truth is quite different.

I would really like to go back to Monson, they are a good company in my opinion. With out getting a years worth of experience things aren't looking good. They have never laid off before in their history which makes me think it could be much longer than I can hold out. One good thing is that my training is now free so I don't have to pay them back on that. They told me not to worry about it since they left me, I didnt leave them. There really are some good people there and people that I consider friends.
There are still a lot of trucking jobs to be had as long as you have a year OTR. Some of them them pay really well! -
Why not Millis out of Black River Falls? Their pay is pretty close to Monson. Decent Equipment. Much better home time than Monson, and scheduled and guranteed time off too. I'm pretty sure you would have to retrain or be with a trainer for a while, but having your CDL with a little miles under your belt you are one step ahead of the game already.
One of my friends works there and is doing great. Keep in mind though that the entirec industry is slow right now. -
Thanks for all the replies. I will certainly check into the suggested companies. Retraining will probably not be an option as I have already blown my nest egg the first time around. I went 8 weeks with out a check during my training and simply can't afford to do it all over again, especially just to get another job. Thanks again and I will definitely look into it. I'm going job hunting today at several local companies (non-trucking) to get me through.
