Actually, no. Discs are NOT standard across the industry or required. What is required are reduced stopping distances which larger drums will meet. Peterbilt has made front discs standard on class 8 trucks, but you can get drums to meet the standards as a credit option.

Our customers who have discs are generally very happy and remark about the improvement in "feel" and stopping power. The older generation of HD discs had some issues but the latest generation seems to be pretty trouble free and simple. There is a reason that virtually all cars and light trucks use discs....they work better!

    Oram Thanks this.

It is correct. But still about 5,000$ to have it, and more expensive to keep it. Also there is a part issue. One of my buddies recently set at the Windsor ON scale for three days with a cracked disc. Definitely great thing to have it, but over the high performance drums the difference not that great. So I decided not to have it at this time, but probably I will have in my next truck.

Who quoted 5000.00? Had to be at list and not deducting for the drum system. The 2011's only had an up charge of about 700.00(all six wheels)and the 12's and 13's had no upcharge.

I've got two 2011 T700's,the up charge was only a couple of hundred. Less than the 2011 cascadia's. Doesn't sound right.

Mhhh. I asked the Bendix guys at the MATS, and they told me the same 5000$, that is why I accepted as a fact from the KW dealer. I will push harder to figure out the truth. I will ask Freightliner too, anyway, probably I will settle at the Cascadia Evolution. Although the next problem, the Meritor Fuelite tandem can not fitted with disc brake. They are working on a next version based on the 14X, but I do not know whether will it be out by the time I need.

You can get disc brakes on the front axle, if you watch the video there is a large difference with the discs on the front and you can have drum rear. Something to consider.

Western Star it is $1600.00 my cost to dump the drums and run with disc. One things I will tell you is that if you need more then just pads when you do your brake job it is not cheap at all... Got a price of $2100 for a new brake caliper last Thursday and that was just for the brake caliper. Truck has been pulling hard to the left and after a week of trouble shooting they say it is the brake caliper. Could do a rebuilt brake caliper for $1450.00 but that only comes with a 90 day warranty. New is 2 years.
