TruckerDave, pay/miles is not the problem!!! If you got $1.00/mile as a company driver would you still complain about pay per miles and want your hourly rate at $20.00/hr? It's the total at the end of the week that counts, not how you added it up.

I disagree! Even at $1/mile we would still compromise safety and drive as many miles we could and still ignore the rules and not maintain our equipment even more than we do currently! Because we would make even more money! It's common sense psychology: Reward the behaviors you want repeated and ignore the behaviors you want deleted! In other words, by continuing the pay per mile and even paying more just GUARANTEES that drivers will continue to ignore or break the rules.
And what if you dont get very many miles for whatever reason and you are not at home or released from duty? The minute that driver gets a chance to run again, he will be forced to "make up the lost time"! We have all been there and done that.
I still maintain that the only fair way to compensate drivers is by the hour for ALL WORK PREFORMED FOR THE CARRIER! With EOBRs coming very soon, the infrastucture to monitor the driver's use of his time will be in place and there will be NO EXCUSE for the carrier's to not pay by the hour. It will be obvious which drivers are messing around and "milking the clock" and which drivers are conscientious and hard-working! Get rid of the slackers and reward the drivers that work hard.

Everyone has their opinion. The current HOS has hurt me more then what the old HOS did.

I hate the fact that my 14 hour clock can't stop
I hate the fact that I only sleep 6 hours, wake up fully rested just to be stuck for another 4 hours being unproductive.
I also hate the fact that they ###### with the sleeper birth splits... I use to use sleeper birth splits all the time.
In fact, the only think I really do like is the 34 hours restart. But I'm sure the company driver's are being abused more with that.

O HELL im doing somthing wrong, i thought we were supposed to break the rules thats what they makem for right .

to worry about a log book is a lot like feeding hay to a dead hourse, and hourly pay for a truck driver , wont ever happen.

    good luck to all.p---southernpride:biggrin_2559:

You're thinking like the Crete driver that got 7 years in prison when he killed 7 kids trying to break the rules to make more money . The fact he is the only one prosecuted is what guarantees the rules will continue to be broken . The DOT OIG has prosecuted owners of small carriers that allowed HOS violations . It's hands off the megacarrier management .
There are carriers that have set loading and unloading time and drivers get paid for time beyond that . There are carriers that have dedicated runs and pay both loaded and empty , no waiting for loads . Things won't change with most carriers because there will always be drivers willing to take the abuse .
Do you really think carriers will stop pushing drivers if they are paid by the hour ? The same "hot" loads and impossible scheduling would still be there .

The only drivers thats going to be left out on the road after all the new changes, will be the super truckers and newbies, cause the rest will give up and retire to something else, what a world thats going to be on the road, have fun with that.
